Antifreeze no longer available?

Ok, Went to AutoZone today to purchase two gallons of antifreeze. They have this new "extended life" antifreeze which looks similiar to the GM's Dex-cool. I was told the green stuff is not longer sold. It is all now either the "orange stuff" or dex-cool. They tell me this is because there about 4 different kinds of anti-freeze and the new "orange stuff" is interchangeable with all the kinds expect dex. Never heard of this. Did a radiator just last month with the green stuff?
Also in the past I worked at an oil shange shop. We finally realized we couldn't flush hondas tranny fluid anymore because our dex-III-mercon which is the fluid that is "interchangeable" with hondas burnt their trannys up. Only honda fluid could be used, just as Their Manual said. Is there a said problem with the T5, where I should purchase only Ford tranny fluid? Need to check specs first I guess to see if it's tranny fluid or gear lube, lol.
80-90W in the real dif?

Tremec recomends GM SyncroMesh fluid for the T5. I personally use Red Line in mine. A t5 is not like an automatic transmission where you can burn up clutches. I'm not saying go and dump any ol fluid in there but there is a bit more tolerence.

I also run Redline in the WC T5 (D4 is what I use).

Any info on the radiator fluid?
Redline available at local parts stores? Carquest, advance, oreillys, autozone, walmart, etc?
d4?
80W-90 for dif right?

I read a report a while ago saying that Dex cool is interchangable with standard Ethalyene Glycol. Hovever I still would not do so with my own. The other stuff should be okay though. I'd suggest going to another auto parts store if they can't get ya the green. Or just top it off with watter. After all it is summer right now anyways...

You can still purchase GREEN antifreeze. Advance auto sells Texaco brand for like $7.98/ gal. The new one Prestone makes if for all makes and all models, it mixes with Dex and anything else out there. It's yellow in color.

At my work we sell mostly green stuff... We have the dexcool and stuff too.

I recently purchased some of the Prestone "Mixes with all anti-freeze / extended life" (It was green in color, BTW). It cost nearly $10 per gallon and when I got it home I realized it wasn't what I wanted. I decided to take it back but I couldn't find my receipt, so I went ahead and used it (in the wife's car). Please tell me it's not related to that GM Dexcool nightmare stuff ! I normally use Zerex or store brand but I couldn't find any at A-Zone. I hope ethylene glycol isn't getting scarce again...

the stuff you are reffering to is dexcool....gm is in a lawsuit over that stuff right now...causes premature corosion in the cooling system

Antifreeze has gotten rediculously expensive over the past several years, btu the green stuff is still around. Hard to find it straight, most of it is pre-50/50 mixed now for the same price.

Pep Boys has a coupon for Prestone

don't know if it is a national coupon or if it is for pure green but it is $3 off a gallon got it in the paper today

Where to get the redline? What rear dif fluid? Also if redline is internet only, what should I use, need it by tomorrow??

Ethylene glycol is sold everywhere. If your parts store doesn't stock it, then find a new store to go to. Dex-cool is designed for aluminum engines and has no benefit to iron engines. It works fine, but I would recommend "the green stuff". The thing about dex-cool is that after a while, it starts to turn in to a big goopy mess and is a nightmare to flush out, and I have seen it cause overheating issues and water pump failures. It is in no way, an extended life coolant.

From what I have seen, good ol' straight E/G coolant is on the way out (around here atleast). The new 'one flavor does all' stuff is more prevelant.

Redline is avl locally in many places. One can contact Redline for authorized distributors or call local speed shops.

Local parts stores here have some synthetics - hit or miss.

This sucks, I have only used the green stuff. Good thing I got a case of Zerex left

oh s&1t first R12, now this!!! wtf?

Is eg coolant really on the way out? Should I buy a case or two or three while I can? Is it really bad to use the one coolant fits all stuff? Converting to 134 on 3 old cars I have (including the 5.0) makes me feel old...now this! Sorry for the rant.

Found the green-no blend 100% antifreeze.--no it wasnt prestone or anything. Good ol' valucraft is all I could find. Never really cared for the GM dexcool. Hope the yellow stuff isnt similiar. Seemed when I worked at the oil shop they tend to run around a quart low per around 10,000 miles. Not a real big deal, still one more thing you gotta keep your eye on, even when the vehcile is in good shape.

Hmm haven't heard that. GM invented Dexcool for the longivity of aluminum parts. Would you happen to have a link? I'd like to read more on it...
