Hello all, just finished a rebuild (motor and trans) on my 89 GT and aside from the usual minor bugs to work through I have come across one problem I'd rather not dive into until I had some feedback from you folks out there. The problem I'm having is with the trans., an AoD (yes yes i know "go get a stick") which is actually working great and is alot of fun aside from the fact that it doesn't want to downshift itself under deceleration. All gears work great and will downshift perfectly if I do it manually but if its in D or OD it hangs until the rpm bogs down and will then release. Its not just one gear in particular its all of em (can feel the separate lagged downshifts out of 4th and 3rd, 2nd as well but it doesn't bog near as bad) and is only under deceleration, kickdown function works great. After some research I was thinking maybe a governor problem which would make sense as its the only old part still in the stinkin thing (I did clean it all out of course) but didn't want to tear it out w/out some input. Should probably mention along with new parts a transgo reprogramming kit was installed (did not opt for the high rev gov. for over 5k shifts as my motor is mostly stock except roller rockers and a few other things) Thanks for any help offered up in advance I know I've learned alot from you guys already just as a lurker

this is probably a dumb reply but with some people you never know. have you checked the fluid and the filter in it?

If your fluid is good then check your linkage. I had problems with mine doing the same thing. I ended up going with a different valve body..

when you added the trans go kit did you use the one with the template to drill the holes in the passage plate?

Yeah sure did, along with drilling a couple holes in the valve body itself and rerouting/blocking/restricting some of the fluid passages

ive installed quite a few shift kits and from differnt brands and i have NEVER had to drill inot the throttle body. is this something you read on the net and tried? im not nagging just curious. i believe this is where you might have messed up.

LoL no I didnt just go experimenting on my valve body or anything. The kit has you drill 2 holes in the valve body and install a tube to reroute one of the passages that they have you block off with a couple aluminum pieces they send ya

You might want to check www.clickclickracing.com and post up in their forums. Lots of good AOD tech over there.

And I have the same shift kit and its part of the kit that requires that you drill and install a small tube to reroute a fluid path.

Thanks a ton Ryc didn't even have to make a post, so much AoD info on there my question was posted and reposted lol. Well all signs from what I've found seem to point to a sticky governor or VB being the culprit when it doesn't want to downshift coming to a stop, guess I know what to do now
