Chime in if you have bought and replaced an aftermarket shifter. In other words what do you guys think is pure junk? Thanks in advance for any help.

I've never heard anyone say they were disappointed with any aftermarket short throw shifter they bought. That being said, I'm very satisfied with my Pro 5.0.

this is kinda what i hear... billet is billet and if it had stops than it should be ok. Im looking at one that is a steeda knockoff and it $124.

I've never really heard anyone complain about the aftermarket shifters, I dunno about the knockoff brands, but all the main brands are fine

There are plenty of "bad" shifters out there...just go watch some vids on streetfire and see how slow people are for yourself LOL

I had the steeda tri axe on my old 04 GT and the pro 5.0 on my 98. The steeda shifted better and easier, but that may also be due to the tranny being better in the 04 too.

I am going with the MGW next time, I havent heard anything bad about it anywhere.

None that I heard of.
Whatever someone has is always better than the other guys. "cough" MGW "cough" "cough".

I've had stock, UPR, and MGW.

I'm still on the fence for the MGW, its not THAT much of a diff. over the UPR. I actually liked the notchier feel of the UPR better, sounds silly I'm sure but the MGW is just TOO smooth.

Both are great though

I had 40k on the UPR

and about 2k on the MGW now, with almost = track time on both.

I know the Mac short throw shifter is a total POS
but, then again all Mac products belong in the trash.
The Steeda Tri Ax is my favorite.

Prochamber... trash? if the prochamber goes in the trash then so does your WRX
.... my friend has a UPR and hates it TriAX for teh win

I'd say stick with the known brands - Pro 5.0, Steeda, MGW, Hurst (maybe)... the other ones just seem iffy to me

The UPR is EXACTLY the same as the Tri-Ax...

well if thats the case then my friend hates both the UPR and the Tri-Ax... but who cares what he thinks TriAx is a nice shifter and they just lowered the price on them.

I have the UPR Blu-thunder shifter... It was great for the first year, but now there is a bit of slop when in gear (side to side wobble). It still works well for the street, but I've missed third two or three times at the strip. I'll consider changing to an MGW if the shifting gets worse, or hell, just buy a new trans

Sounds like you used the shift stops, or you need to repack the grease. They get a lot of dirt in them because most people don't mod the dust cover for the top of the shifter.

Im not 100% sure about that. I talked to one of the guys at UPR about their shifter, and asked them how it was compared to a TriAx. He admitted they were really, really close in design but he said that the UPR did feel different than the Steeda model. He said the TriAx is a little quieter, and slightly smoother, but the overall feel of the UPR was better. So I dont know if that was an attempt at a sales pitch (kinda weird if it was seeing as how he was commenting the Steeda aswell), or if he was telling the truth... but I just thought id throw that out there...

I have driven a Tri-Ax (only like 30 miles) and it felt exactly the same to me... there was slightly less road noise though, but both were slightly quieter than the MGW on down shift any way

My MGW is pretty quiet. I just recently started getting some kind of noise coming through in the higher gears. I dont know if its related to the shifter or not, but the MGW is very nice. Super solid, and I love how you can adjust the handle high or low, and 360* around. With my T-shift handle I have found the ultimate shifting position, lol.

I would say its expensive, but its really only 20-30 bucks more than UPR and Steeda's stuff.
