i'm at the point in the build where i need to remover the old springs...install the new springs and get this rolling. are there any good links out there on how to do this, write up style??
I did mine on my old heads with no write up. Just go to the parts store and ask for a spring compressor tool, pay your deposit and get it back when you return it. The tool itself is selfexplanatory. Just latch it on....crank it until the spring compresses...take off the little clip ontop of the valve....and remove the spring. Assembly is the exact opposite, except you need to install the valve seals with a socket and a few hammer taps.
some valve seals just rest on the valve stem over the guide in the head and don't need to be tapped on, you must have the positive type seals, or viton seals tapping on a regular umbrella seal wil destroy it.
E, you'll also need to get some valve lapping compound and a valve lapping tool. the easiest way to lap the valves that i've found is to use a black marker and cover the machined seat of the valve with it before you start lapping the valves, afterwards apply the lapping compound, put the valve in the head and use the lapping tool to turn the vlave back and forth on the valve seat. once there is a consistent gap in the black mark on the valve that is completely clean of the marker that valve is lapped and then you can install the springs, keepers and locks. don't forget to lap the valves or they may not seat correctly
