Any tires better than Nitto NT 555s for the money?

I have went through 2 sets of these tires over the past few years on the stang. Discounttire has these tires for 135 shipped a piece for 245/40-18. I cant find any tires that can compare to the price and perfomance of these tires.

Only complaints i have about them is I can only get about 15k miles out of them and they seem to hydroplane like crazy.

It's about time for a new set of tires and I'm thinking about getting something different. I looked at the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s and BFGoodrich KDW-2s. The goodyears cost over 200 a piece plus shipping and the KDW-2s cost around 170 a piece plus shipping. I cant justify spending the extra money over the nittos for a set of tires thats only gonna last me around 15000 miles. What do you guys think?

The Nitto 555's are good tires in warm and hot weather
because they will stick to the ground.In cold weather they aren't as good.I had the Nitto 555's and after they
were bald I came on here and I asked about what would be a good performance and alot of people said get the
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3's and how right they were!

You might try some Kumho Ecsta 712's. I am on my 3rd set and have been
getting 25k out of them. I paid $115 each for 255/45/17's. One thing I
do at Discount tire is ask for a discount over thier 1st quote, act like its too
high, they can drop the price a bit to get your business, also dont buy the
road hazard coverage, as they repair flats free anyway.

i really didnt like the 712s... i went from 555s to them and didnt care for em. the KDW2s i had were the best i have used so far, and worth the money. if you cant spend more then 135 a tire, then yes the 555s are the best you can have... you might want to consider falken azinis.... they dont have as good strait line grip, but are a lil better in turns, plus they last longer.

Having not tried the 555's yet myself, why do you like them better than the
Kumho's, what differance did you notice?

the nittos had better wet traction (honestly liked the 555s wet traction, as opposed to the OPs thoughts), and better overall grip, mostly concentrating on corner grabbing. strait line was marginal in difference, but the 555s also lasted me longer. 25k as opposed to the 17 for the 712s. KDWs made it around 30k, however i wore them to the belts. best wet and dry traction, and best in the corners. but you pay for it.

I have Fuzion's ZRi 245/55 17 and all I can say is for less then $100 a corner is the best tire I have used and they are a good wet weather tire too.

i was underwhelmed by the fuzions....yeah not bad for under 100, however i spent just over on my falkens and liked em better for handeling and wet weather. the fuzion is not bad if you HAVE to have the cheapest tire out there (at that time price was my main concern), but they dont make them in a lot of sizes.

i have used kuhmos,eagle f1 gs-d, ventus, and BFG dr2's. i like the dr2's. just don't drive in the rain.

you referring to the DR2 or KDW2? just making the distinction... the DR2 would not be happy in wet weather just by looking at the pattern... but the KDW is really great.... just wanting to seperate different tires for future readers.

I love my nittos. For the money they are great.
I live in FL. so you know I do alot of drivin in the rain. The tires handle pretty well on wet roads. During dry season they stick to road like glue.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I noticed the only DR you can get for the stock 17x8's is the Nitto 555's. I don't think the BFG DR2's come in a size that would fit them, right? What is the best DR option for stock 17x8 rims?
