I have a Ujoint that is connecting my yoke that will not come off. I have the yoke off but I need to remove the ujoint from the driveshaft. I tried brut force and knocking the holy crap out of it, but I dont want to damage the Dshaft. Any tricks anyone knows of?

There is a special tool used to press it out, you can probably rent it.
I wouldn't be banging on too many things related to the driveshaft, that's what causes and unbalance.

Try using a ball joint press. It is a big C-clamp with adapters. Autozone rents/loans them out here.

I have also used the 4# hammer method but it kinda sucks if the caps are stuck.

be sure to put the DS back in indexed per your removal markings.

Good luck.

I took my driveshaft to someone who knew what they were doing and they charged me about 16.00 to Remove and replace the old u-joints. I paid a total of 41.00 to put in a set of high performance u-joints.

maybe heat up the driveshaft yoke a little with a torch or something. that will expand the yoke and hopefully let you get that u-joint out easier.

pb blaster works wonders. i use a big clamp or a socket that it the same size or slightly smaller than the cap itself and lay the driveshaft in the grass. hold the socket on the cap and whack it with a big hammer.

Well, you don't need to replace the whole driveshaft.
But if you could scrounge up the money, the Ford Racing aluminum driveshaft is a very worthy replacement.
Silky smooth compared to the stock driveshaft, well worth the money.

I always use a angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and carefully cut the legs off the u joint then just bang the 4 caps out.. Never had any trouble with this method. Or you could cut them out with a torch the same way..

heat up the ears with a propane torch... hit them with a little WD40 or PB blaster put a socket on the cap and beat it out...

The stock joint caps are usually injected with some sort of plastic to keep them in place, so you will need heat to get them off. And if you watch while heating the ear you can see the plastic bleed out so you know its ready to be beat out with a hammer and socket. You will only need to heat one ear to bleed it then smack the opposite cap to force it out.

I paid about the same to replace both ujoints with decent aftermarket ones; and saved me all the frustration.

If you've got the type with injected plastic you DEFINATELY need to heat it. I had an old pickup with the caps held in with injected plastic and didn't know it. Beat hell out of it with a socket and a BFH to get it out. Well, I wound up bending the ear of the yoke just enough to vibrate the truck like crazy. what I had to do was put an indicator on the d.s. with the rear jacked up and roll it thru to mark the high side. I then tweaked the ears on the yoke back straight and it ran smooth.

If you have a vise that's large enough and some sockets you can use that as a press for disassebly and assembly. works quite well.

good luck.
