if you don't want p/s, your best bet would be to get an aftermarket manual rack and pinion setup

I'm going to be going with a flaming river manual rack. They have good prices on Ebay. I had a thread a few days ago all about it. Just search "manual rack."

Dude. you have been on these forums long enough. Time to lay of that ****. Search function!!!

Either do a Flaming River manual rack kit, or piece it togeather using reman factory parts such as a manual rack out of a 79-81 4 or 6 banger. They arn't so cheap anymore. The Flaming river kit is pretty reasonable priced, check D&D motorsports, that is where I got mine. The steering shaft it comes with and other parts are so much nicer than stock. I got the bumpsteer kit as well.

If you just disconnect the P/S or delete the pump, your going to have problems because the power rack was designed to work with the flud pressue, without that it's working against itself resulting in really tough steering.

If you get the standard Flaming River rack (or the hole set-up for that matter, cause you need the shaft),its not all much harder than the PS.

IMO,its better once you get going and at high speeds.

If you want a caddy, buy a caddy, this is a mustang were talking about.

There are some people that are serious about building thier cars, and then there are those who just want to look and sound good and have a little fun. When the look/sound group tries to get in with the real builders, they find themselves out of place. I did a rear seat delete for weight, others do it for a space to put bigger subwoofers and amps, while mine has no stereo. Same mods, totally different purpose.

The basic setup for the Factory Five Cobra kit car calls for the car to use a regular 15:1 Mustang 5.0 rack without the power steering pump of hoses, so the stock rack will work OK without power. But that car is about 1000lbs lighter and even then, turning is a chore.

LOL i left a party with my wife one night. I got to a stop sign. stopped. looked both ways and dumped the clutch . i was turning left. i hit second gear and thats when my serpitine belt flew the coop. my car was sideways. at which point it kicked toward the ditch and i drove right in. i missed a fire hydrent by inches. my wife crossed her arms and said well that was nice. lol i could figure what the heck happened. then i saw my serp belt laying in the middle of the road. Couple buddys came down the road in there bronco. pulled me out. no damage to the car just my ego. and i didn't get any that night. damn i think i should go to a manual rack so this doesn't happen to me again.

Why do you want to remove it? I mean, what do you hope to gain? Unless you have a full blown race car, it won't net you the results you want and will just make driving the car that much more harder. I'd leave it alone. JMO though.
