my new coupe is all manual, has a nice alarm, etc. and using window cranks, and disabling the alarm, then using the key is just plane annoying.... plus im planning on swapping to black interior, if i get door panels with all the switches for power windows/locks, etc.... how hard is it to convert everything?

should the car HAVE all nessesary wiring harnesses etc tucked away in it somewhere? or did they actually wire up manual cars differently, because ive seen 'all power door wiring' things on ebay.

and how many little things do i have to actually swap to get it done? anybody done it? let me know what you think

thanks

I did the opposite, I converted some power doors to manual. My 86 originally had manual windows, locks and mirrors but due to rust I replaced the doors with some newer ones that were all power but I wanted to keep the manual style windows in it.The manual style doors don't have a wiring harness in them so you are going to have to find one somewhere. The only nuts+bolts difference in the doors as far as the windows go are the manual style uses a crank and manual window regulator and the power ones use a motor and power window regulator. The two different styles of regulators use different mounting holes but my doors were pre-drilled for either style so it was just a matter of drilling out the rivets holding the power window regulator in place and riveting in the manual regulator. The glass, brackets and window runs were the same for either style.MM&FF magazine had a project white trash that they converted the doors from manual to power and the wiring was the biggest headache.

nah just go get a new one. :D

its funny cause my dad will perposely look for a car without power windows cause he got caught in the rain and his window motor went and left him on his way to work with no way to put up his window. plus for me its just extra weight....... i can roll down my windows faster than a motor anyway :D

I changed my base LX to all power when I swapped in a GT interior. You need the wiring in the doors, the wiring under the dash from door to door for the power windows & locks. It connects to the main harness with two wires in the drivers kick panel. If you want the mirrors, you will need another harness that is part of the main harness in the car. Mine didn't have it, so I pulled the wires from a donor 4 cyl and just got the wires I needed for the switch and the mirrors from the donor harness. I hooked it up to the lighter power and ground and it works fine. For the power windows, you need the regulators in the doors and the motors. Just drill out the rivets and put the new one in with nuts & bolts. I would go with the parts express aftermarket lock actuators instead of the Ford ones, easier to install and better. I'll post some more info later.
