What's the full budget for swapping in a TKO600? A quick run of the numbers suggests it'll clear $2000. And that makes a T56 look more like a viable option. Anybody completed a swap recently and have a total figure?

No, I decided the 2005 Mustang GT is not for me. Lots of reasons, none of them good. The biggest single reason is that I'm a cheap bastard -- the more I make, the less I want to spend on my car. At least on car payments, that is. So instead I will waste silly amounts of money attempting to make my 95 go faster than 13.4 in the quarter mile. I've only spent $6000 so far, I figure another $6000 and I should be in the 12's!

BA1 Ford 5.0/5.8 440 lb-ft 2.97 Wide Ratio(a) $1999

BA2 Ford/Viper 5.0/5.8 550 lb-ft 2.66 Close Ratio(b) $2499

From d&d's site. Thats just a trans alone, then you need bellhousing, clutch and whatever else little odds & ends. Those gear ratio's suck IMO. I'd take a tko 500 anyday over the 6spd. Your looking at an extra $1,000 for a 6spd over a tko. Since your a cheap bastard, I think you have your answer :D

Why isnt your car as fast as it should be?

Dark Horse Performance has a T56 swap kit for $2249: "TREMEC T56, 31 SPLINE SLIP-YOKE, SHIFTER, BELLHOUSING AND BLOCKPLATE POLYURETHANE CONVERSION MOUNT AND THROWOUT FORK."

I'd just need a new clutch disc. I'd think the T56 would be a smoother tranny for daily driving, from what I've heard about the TKO's . The T56 is only rated at 440 ft-lb, but I know Cobras making twice that who haven't broken it yet.

If I knew why my car wasn't as fast as it should be, it would be as fast as it should be :rlaugh:. Despite the fact that I'm 150% sure my cam is degreed properly, I think I'm going to retard it a couple of degrees and try to move the torque curve up a little, maybe I can find the horsepower that way. And I'm getting rid of the Edelbrock 94/95 elbow in favor of a Fox style setup, maybe that'll help a tiny bit.

I wouldnt change anything with the cam until the cars problem is fixed. I had a problem with my car back when I had the full TFS combo. The car was only hitting 275rwhp and like 315tq. One day at a buddys shop while changing my trac loc clutches, my buddy asked me which was I had the fuel filter in. I told him and he was like 'uh, why that way'? I got a new one and pt it in and gained about 5mph at the track and went back to the dyno and made 304hp/339tq :) My a/f was fine even with the backwards fuel filter. Just an idea, luckily my problem cost me $10 to fix, but w/o him saying that to me, I would never known.

That's really interesting about the fuel filter. I would have thought that if it were causing a problem, you'd have seen trouble with the A/F ratio. Very interesting. Maybe this weekend I'll verify which way the filter is installed, just to be sure -- can't hurt :).

I can't speculate on the smoother part, but a 6spd would make 4.56s a very streetable option :nice: Depending on whether or not the rest of your setup would work well with them.

I am curious as well. My T-5 doesn't have many miles on it but after the new combo sees some action I doubt the tranny will hold up. For long away. I think the concept of a 6-speed is cool but I just can't see me springing all that. I am looking at the G-Force but have heard some horror stories that are scaring me a little bit. It would be bad to be able to run 4.56 and still be able to book it down the interstate.

Uh, NO. The 6th gear ratio in the tranny he's thinking about buying is .62. Your telling me thats a HUGE jump from the .68 thats in tremecs and t5's? The 6th gear in the 550 ft/lb one is .50 but that ones $400 more.

Hairy- I thought so too that it was weird how the a/f wasn't lean with it backwards. Doesnt hurt to check or even change it for a $10. Let me know how it turns out!

Killer- Is your tko swap post gonna be sn95 specific? I might be buying a low mileage used tko from a guy on here. Do you think the stock tremec alum bell needs to be indexed? Or if I save it for the new motor i'm planning i'll have to index it probably.

i just did the TKO-600 swap and with all the parts i ended up spending right around $2200. thats for the tranny, bellhousing, new clutch kit, rear slip yolk, driveshaft spacer, offset mount and i bought a new clutch cable and quadrant while i was at it

Sorry, I didn't specify .50 nor did I notice the specifics of the model he was looking at. Just to set the record straight, the .50 6th gear is available in most any of the torque ratings: 330, 350, 375, 385 (.50 .54 &.56), 390, 415, 450 & 550. These are Tremec gear sets. I don't know what kind of gear sets they're putting in the aftermarket T56s. I'm not familiar with 6spd interchanges, but I'm guessing that all of the model #s share the same case. You're right, .68 to .62 only drops from 3122 to 2846 with 4.56s @ 80mph. But the .50 drops it to 2295. So, assuming a .50 6th gear, I'll stick with my original thoughts.

HairyCanary,
You can look HERE for all the different gear sets available in a factory T56. I don't know how much these are, but when I originally posted, I was thinking about the Richmond 6spd. My T56 knowledge has improved significantly today. :D And HERE's Richmond's RPM calculator for a 6spd. I just noticed that the Richmond 6spd bolts up to the Lakewood 15202 which also happens to be the Tremec 3550/TKO bolt pattern :nice:

Good Luck
Jared.
