Anybody have an Edelbrock AVS Carb?

Had one.....I would not give you a bag of dog crap for one!

Do yourself a favor,.get a ProVac750 from Quickfuel...Summit sells them, so does Jegs, also ebay has the odd one as well.

You will need to go up one size on the squirters, and drop the jets a size and it will be perfect....I can get the exact Numbers for you if you are interested.

Is a Provac 750 just like a holley 750? Currently i have a 750 Holley Vac Secondary Electric choke. I've taken it to 3 Carburetor shops to try to get it dialed in. Car runs great when you romp on it, but lacks instant throttle responce and gets crapy gas mileage overall(8 miles per gallon). I have a C4 with a 2500 stall and 3.50 gears in the rear.

About that Edelbrock Avs 650...........that bad huh!

i like it, its really easy to use and mess around with, ran right outta the box pretty nicely and has never given me trouble. For a 393 you'll want the 750. Everyone says that theres a big performance difference between Edelbrock and Holley... but the way I see it, all a carb does is shove gas down a hole, hard to see one being much more proficient at it than another. What you'll generally hear is Edelbrock is more reliable, more economical, and easier to use, while Holley's and their spinoffs perform slightly better, get worse mileage, and are harder to tune but you can mess with more. Either way, I'll take the ease of use of a Edelbrock over the extra 10 horses of a Holley without much hesitation.

What size motor do you have? You could be overcarbed. As for me, I have decided to go with a holley 700 DB. Not too big, not too small, and no issues with secondaries opening too soon or too late. What I like about holley is all the extra little parts that are available for tuning it. Bigger acclerator pumps or smaller, depending on your needs. Accelerator pump cams, titanium needles. It is all out there. Less so for the edelbrock.

Theres nothing wrong with the edelbrock carbs, just alot of misunderstanding regarding them, kinda like the reputation of the Rochester quadrajet..hated by many who dont understand it but when tuned right its an absolutely awesome carburetor. The AVS has been around for 35 years and has worked great or it wouldnt still be around, they were an OEM carb on a bunch of very fast mopars .. edelbrock just bought the rights to them. As for the holley based carbs, as long as you dont buy an el cheapo universal 600cfm, you'll probably be fine there too. I personally have had the best out of the box experience with the carter/edelbrock carbs.. but thats just 1 persons experience.. I wont use a holley brand carburetor.. just dont feel the quality is there anymore unless youre buying high end and there are a few really good knockoffs from other companies that improve on the holley design. Regardless of what you choose, its going to need to be calibrated to run properly.. buy what you feel most comfortable working with.

It is a completely Reworked Holley 750 vacuum secondary....they modify the heck outta it it actually flows about 800 wet.

I ran it on my 351w......WAY BETTER throttle response than my EFI cars!

If you are doing a 393w....like me.....it is PERFECT.

You can talk diectly with co-owner Marty Brown....he can put one together just for your combo, or you can buy a generic one off ebay, or summit, or jegs and you will need to put a #35 squirter on it, and put 72/78 jets in it ....that should be about right on.
