Almost a month ago I had some BBk equals and a BBk off road h-pipe put on, and didn't have any problems for about 2 weeks, not even a check engine light. Then at WOT one day it sounded like the passenger side headers came loose. Tough to describe, it's a really fast thumping sound that gets faster and louder with the RPM's, and is actually louder inside the car than outside. Anyway, I couldn't really tell for sure, so I thought I'd get in there and see if any of the bolts were loose...but couldn't do a decent job of it with my tools. A friend of mine works in a shop so I just waited a week or so til we could get it up on the lift and take a better look. When we did, we found everything was nice and tight, but one of my hoses had a big hole in it, so we took off the intake and MAF sensor, and checked all the hoses and replaced the one. But here come the big problems...
We hooked everything back up and the old sound on the passenger side is gone, but there's a new clicking sound that seems to be coming more from the driver side, and the idle is rough as hell, it bounces back and forth between 300 and 1200 all on it's own. There's popping noises every now and then, the check engine light came on, and it stalls out periodically. It's an AODE and whether it's in drive, park, or neutral...no matter where the RPM is (constantly bouncing) it immediately drops 300-500 whenever I hit the gas. So if I try to give it gas while it's bounced down to 500 or so on it's own, it stalls out. Here comes the best part...
This afternoon I start it up, and the idle is rougher than ever...it isn't even bouncing, it's just struggling to get to 700 and there's a crackling noise. I try to give it a little gas and it feels like when you're running out of gas: you floor it but the RPMs just won't climb. What I did get though was a SHI*LOAD of black smoke from the exhaust and an engine bay that is hotter than I've ever felt before. I let it sit for 2-3 hours, came back, and I still damn near burnt my hand on the hood latch release. Waited another couple of hours, started it up, and it's back to the bouncing RPMs and stalling.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but WTF is going on? I've checked everything we disconnected when we fixed the one hose, and everything's fine. I tried disconnecting the battery for a while and then tried to get it to relearn the idle...not a chance. I know it's hard to give advice from this list of symptoms without seeing it yourself. (anybody in D.C. area?) And sorry if my lack of knowledge is obvious from this post, and if there's any more info I can give to help give you an idea, please ask! I'm pretty desperate for absolutely ANY advice, suggestions...etc. Otherwise I guess I'll be headed to a Ford Dealership in a couple days.
Thanks
