whats the deal?

You know...I like Tony Stewart, I like his aggression on the track. But his comments on bump drafting It's been like that since restrictor plate racing started...He said its dangerous..ok Tony you know what else is dangerous...RACING AT 180MPH!!! Just like the sun is hot, water is wet, and light is bright. hey how about this just throw a briggs&straton in em' and let them "race" that.

You know you make a good point, but in the end we dont want our drivers dying in their races. Its like last year when F1 came to the US and anyone with out Bridgestone tires couldnt race (those Michies' were unstable at the track). They didnt F1 cars crashing all over the place. Granted their speeds are different,F1cars seem so much safer than almost any other race car out there. So those with Michies' could have raced, their drivers could have held back they just would have to race to finish in the best losing position possible. But doesnt that sound worse than just telling them to get off the track?

Cons of Bump Drafting:
NASCAR does not want any more Dale Earnhardt situations. Tony Stewert has a huge fan following. He made one very serious complaint "someone's going to die" heard round the NASCAR community. It would really suck to have some young rookie bump draft someone and kill an older driver (what if it was Mark Martin or Stewart himself?)

Pros of Bump Drafting:
They talk about bump drafting is bad but a lot of passes are initiated by it. The NASCAR Truck Series uses bump drafting all the time, they have tons of wrecks at high speeds and as far back as I can remember they havent had any deaths.

NASCAR wants to penalize those who bump draft to control the situation. This is kind of like what F1 did when they came to the US. F1 mandated that all those running Michelin tires had to get off the track and sit the race out. I think F1 should have let the driver/team make their own decision-Race or Sit this one out. NASCAR should skip the whole penalty idea, aerodynamics are so important in this sport. Bump passing is going to happen, its part of racing and penalties are really lame. NASCAR should do one of two things: put a further squeeze on their restrictor plates or take Pro-Choice stand to the race. Going back to my F1 point, NASCAR sould say: "fine, if you are scared then don't race." I think this is the best solution because it gets all the s off the track who go out there terrified that they were going to die. This would clean up the field and the die-hard racers would go out there knowing the risks.
Just my .02

btw, has anyone seen the A1 racing on the OLN channel? it is quickly becomming one of my favorite race to watch. they have F1/IRL looking cars that come with N2O power boosts the drivers can use at any time. the whole power boost idea is awesome, it brings a whole different aspect to racing. the drivers represent different countries and their cars are painted to match their home colors. its on saturday from 6-8pm and its on sunday but i dont know what time. if you like racing that involves using n20, the brake pedal, aerodynamics and turning both directions CHECK IT OUT!

I have to watch NASCAR because my 6 year old is nuts about it. I'm doing to the Daytona 500 this year, probably next year though.

Since drafting is necessary in this race the driver's shouldn't complain about it. You can't win by yourself in this race. All racing is dangerous. Hell driving down any street is dangerous. The driver's need to take off there diapers and race hard.

Busch race is starting right now. I have to route for the Roush guys-Edwards, O'Quinn, Bif....

In the First twim 125 race thursday Tony Stewart after making his comments to NASCAR about bump drafting did a nice little courtsey bump to the Corvette Pace car as a joke. It was quite funny to see.

1 of 2 driver's will be the '06 Champ. "The Biff" or Carl Edwards. I hope Greg will show them who he really is this year. He will be the 1st person in history to win ALL 3 Cup titles (Truck Series, Busch, Nextel).

My son wants to be a crew cheif in NASCAR when he's older. In fact he wants to go to the NASCAR institute in Mooresville, N.C. I'm looking into property there already.

The Busch race was good. How about the wreck on the last lap at the start/finish? Sadler finished 2 feet away from the line.

Speaking of Biffle he said last night on Trackside Live that he should have been penalized for rough driving after the wreck he caused. Nobody I know in NASCAR would ever admit that.

About bump drafting. Micheal Waltrip on Trackside said and I quote "The bumping was so out of hand that at one point I was bumped so hard when I looked up I was leading the race." "I would have never made those moves. I was bumped into that position."

Agreed. He is a driver with class, and that's what I really like about him. I like what one of the Fox sports guys said. It was something to the effect of "some other driver's are doing back flips, jumping fences, and getting arrested ..... but Biffle ..... he just races." That's why he isn't in the media as much. But he won more races than anyone else last year, and I look forward to him winning the Cup this year.

Have you ever been to a race? People bash Nascar all the time with "its boring all they do is drive in a circle" Unless youv'e been to a race you can't talk. I admit watching it on tv is boring I fall a sleep but I went to the last race at Dover last year and it was so awsome. There wasn't many crashes like 1 but still it was 1 of the coolest things I've ever seen. The speed of the cars and the sound is amazing. I plan on going back.

Easy Justin on the guy being arrested if you mean Kurt Bush. I was a Rusty Wallace fan sad to see him go its just not the same watching the race today but I'm thinking I'm gonna stick with the #2 Miller Lite car which means Bush is my driver now. He was driving stupid just like we all do he just got caught and beings who he is it was spread

My roomate is starting to get me into NASCAR. He's a hardcore fan. I used to despise NASCAR, now I'm starting to like it. I'm watching the Daytona 500 as I type this.

Nascar rocks. Its the only thing I gamble on. The crowd at a Nascar event is super friendly and its basically an 80,000 person party. Until you go to an event to check it out, don't knock it.

The one thing that pisses me off are the "crashes are the most exciting thing" people. I've been to an oval track and I've seen my friend hit the wall going 70ish MPH and let me tell you there is nothing exciting about that. It's one of the worst feelings and you're totally helpless to do anything except pray that your friend is alright. And that you don't see any fire. Scary stuff.

In terms of the 500, not the best race. I was pulling for the 17 and the 88. Tony Stewart... well I don't even want to get started.

Today's race just further enforced the fact that Tony Stewart is a raving loon and shouldn't be allowed to race.

Mystery, I was not bashing Nascar, I even said in the my thread that the guys have to have talent and N@#s. Yes I have been to several Nascar races, my co-supervisor has a bus and goes to MIS every June and August and gets in the infield. I have been with him and I have watched Hermie and Elliot run minor tracks in South Boston Virginia when they first started....
I give all those guys respect...I just said it is not my cup of tea....to each his own....any time a guy can hit over 180mph and take a chance on hitting the wall the hats off to them....Bristol Va is my favorite track due to the size but I get bored after a while

No problem, I just did not want anyone thinking I was bashing something, that's not my style......I have overheard people talking about turning left four times.....and my comment is that they don't have to watch it......My family is in to and are into all types of race pools and I can see how that gets them into it, I take it Stewart did something bad today, usually I call my dad on race day and ask how he made out and he will comment on the race.....that and highlights are about as much as I get into it.....LOL
