Anyone cut out the stock cats ?

Yes I am obsessed with sound and have created 3.5 million threads surrounding making my car louder while still keeping it "legal"

So for those of you running high flow cats instead of the stock ones (preferably if you've cut the stock ones and replaced them high flow ones) is there a sound differerence that goes along with the improved performance?

Just buy a Off-road X-Pipe...they give more hp than the catted x-pipes and they are alot louder...plus all you have to do every year is just unbolt the xpipe and put the stock h-pipe back on and go get it tested then come back home and put ur x back on...once a year to do this isn't as bad as it seems.

I HAVE MY 01 CATS GUTTED AND IT WAS A LITTLE LOUDER.AFTER I GO TO INSPECTION HERE IN N.J. FEB. I WILL BE PUTTING ON A X-PIPE OR H-PIPE. I HAVEN'T CHOSEN WHICH ONE YET.

when i bought my 02gt, the guy had installed 40 series and removed the 2 rear cats. as it was, it was prety loud, but then i installed a MustangTuning o/r x-pipe, and omg....i get comliments all day long at school. it is kinda loud, and may get annoying if you have a low tolerance for sound. but most of the time it is relatively quiet (1500-2200 rpm's) but if you punch it, people 2 blocks away can here it

hey rant buddy, dont cut out the stock cats, just put on a o/r pipe. we failed a guy at work for having non stock visible welds on a 96+ cats.

my catted prochamber is quieter at idle as far as bass goes, but she screams at high RPM, I'd say louder than my friends O/R prochamber, but his is louder at idle

Bassani X-Pipe with Cats and Magnaflow Cat Back, sounds killer on my 2000 GT. Noticed big sound difference. Recc. dont mix X-pipe with Flowmaster mufflers. Flows have baffles (most) and magnaflow is a straight through design---better for x-pipe sound and performance.

the problem that you will encounter with the Bassani mid pipes in CA is their absolute illegality, including the catted ones. on my 98 GT im gonna run the stock midpipe, with a Borla or Bassani catback with BBK or Cat4ward shorties and when i take it to the track ill swap in a O/R X-pipe.

Why not cross X-pipe with flowmasters? It sounds so badass...people can here me coming a mile from there house when I call and tell them I'm almost there they say "yeah, I hear you coming."

The Basani x/hi flow catt system is 7 pieces. The catts can be removed and replaced with a straight pipe(included)

Why won't the catted Bassani X pass emissions in CA?

i havent seen any tailpipe numbers, but its not approved by the California Air Resources Board. if you look through any automotive catalog, Summit, Jegs, etc. you will notice that certain parts have a "CARB EO # D-xxx-xx" that means that part was approved for use in CA. if there is an emissions related part that does nto have that, and is present on a vehicle in CA, then they are subject to fines and citations if pulled over, or if they are unfortunate enough to go through a mobile smog station.

I swear, Cali officials get off on failing cars during emission tests!! That is insane: non stock welds!! WOW!!!

What if I made a fake carb #? Do they check that hard? I wouldnt actually do it b/c it's not worth it, but just curious.

Also, these ridiculous waste-of-tax-payer-money mobile stations, how many of them are there? What kind of places do they put them at?

yes we have a database of all the EO numbers. there are 2 i believe, i know there is one rolling around the LA area. and i think the other is in the San Jose area. basically the high street race areas. as for the non stock welds, that means that the midpipe has been modified, and that is illegal in CA. but you guys gotta remember, the checks i do are a lot more strenious than other smog shops. we actually do a complete smog, anyone who has "passed" without the stock cats got theirselves cheated.

thanks for the replies everyone...yeah so looks like I'd be better off running an O/R midpipe and then keeping a stock H-pipe on hand for smog time...

hey rant buddy (bdcardinal) so let's say worse case scenario I get caught for running an offroad pipe and I get a $10000 ticket...can I avoid paying that by having the factory H pipe placed back on?

If I remember right, the answer is no...hopefully not though. If I ever am stuck with a $10k ticket, I think I'll just go to jail for a while, cause I ain't touchin it.....maybe they offer a 20yr payment plan Either way, the sound is definately worth it!!
