It seems that YouTube is now cracking down on people posting their own videos using their own purchased music!!!! So now it appears that I’ll have to replace the audio portion of my video with something appropriately licensed (see link below). Honestly, I really never considered the possibility of violating copy write laws. I understand their point of view I suppose….but considering the sound quality on the video was not even mp3 standard, and was not able to be separated from the video…I would have thought it to be more advantageous (free advertising) than anything else to the artists.

Here is the e-mail they sent me…..

“Dear mustangcrazy77,

Video Disabled

A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video Twin Turbo Mustang Dyno: (YouTube - Twin Turbo Mustang Dyno). The audio content identified in your video is Oddity by Coal Chamber. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback due to a music rights issue.

Replace Your Audio with AudioSwap

Don't worry, we have plenty of music available for your use. Please visit our AudioSwap library http://www.youtube.com/watch_editaudio?v=MGymDJu8b-A to learn how you can easily replace the audio in your video with any track from our growing library of fully licensed songs.

Other Options
If you think there's been a mistake, or you have other questions, please visit the Copyright Notice http://www.youtube.com/copynotice?video_id=MGymDJu8b-A page in your account.

Sincerely,
The YouTube Content Identification Team”

The said A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video ... Sounds to me more like the band or somebody employed by them is trolling for this kind of thing. Somebody complained and they reacted to cover their corporate butt.

Kidding. That does suck, but not much you can do about it.

there used to be a law in place that said you couldnt use copwrited materials... but that was only if you were making a profit or personal gain from it, which is totally acceptable, but that is BS that they are cracking down on youtube

personally i think it is a really stupid move on thier part. its free publicity for them, and as long as you dont butcher the artist what is the problem? if someone sees a cool car video and they like the song, the may just go onto itunes and purchase it right there

Buying a CD doesn't entitle you to broadcast a song on one of your videos over the internet. I've had mine pulled from Streetfire too.

I’m with you…..you would think they wouldn’t have a problem with a little free advertising! Hell, look at all of the music thrown up all over Myspace!

thats a great point. There is a copyright law, but like i said before, it only affects people that are making money/personal gains from it.

i wonder if they would still block it if you put a title block in like when a music video is on tv? could it be an issue of acrediting the artist???

In one of my vids that got pulled, i used about 20 seconds of a Pantera song...not even the whole song...and at the end i put credits up and gave Pantera credit...didn't matter. The issue is permission or lack thereof. You could be praising a particular artist as the greatest thing ever on Earth and they'd still get ya because you don't have permission.

On one hand i agree that it's BS, but as an artist myself i also understand the necessity to protect what's yours so i just let it go. Granted you may not be making money off of it, but the more iron clad they make the copyright laws, the less loopholes there are. For example, you may use a particular song in protest or to support something that the band/label don't agree with....even though you're not making any money, you're using them to represent you without their permission. In the same way, we're also sort of using a band as a representation of a burnout or whatever...it's an association. There's more to it than them just being stingy with their music.

Yeah, thats crap. Pretty soon we will be getting sued for saying we like a particular group out loud without asking their permission first.

I never liked music in the vids anyway. I'm trying to watch a Cobra light up 4 gears of rubber and all i hear is some crappy rap song playing in the background.

I hear ya...but I've always made mine so you can hear the exhaust/tires when you need to hear them....but used the music to excentuate them.

I'm not sure it matters much anymore....as it looks like without permission, most artist are likely to follow. It's too bad for them, really. I've been asked time and time again "who is that in you're vid....and whats the song name?", as they think it's kick a@@!

it has to be done with some taste and some people have no slue how to pick a song thats going give the video the correct "pace"

the thing that annoys me is when im watching a video of an exotic car or an evo and i have to bust out a glow stick for that gay ass techno... whats up with that??
