I never use my AC or Heat but maybe it's not good to never turn them on ? I was thinking of running for a few minutes occasionally but is it necessary ?
You can't be surprised when something you never use is broken when you do go to use it.
Remember too, the defrost will cycle the AC and if the AC unit pulley fails you will toss the belt.
So it's good to know what is going on.
The heat can also alert you to cooling problems, if the heat blows cold, you know there is no coolant in the heater core, which could be a few different issues, none of which are good.
Pretty much nothing mechanical was meant to sit and do nothing and all parts need to be exercised.

I use my AC in the summer, but couldn't tell you the last time I used my heat. It's functional, with a new core, but I just don't drive the car when it's cold. Summer tires and it's strictly a fun car/garage queen. I still test it now and then.
But for the most part in the summer if the car is running the AC is on even if the windows are down.
I got my stang with no heat,the hoses were looped.
You can bet your ass after I replaced that heater core( I cursed the engineers) that I'm gonna use my heater.
As far as a/c ,well i live on the surface of the sun(Nevada) so yes I use it.

coolant is constantly circulating through the core even when heat is not in use. So really nothing to exercise there.
With regards to AC, the refrigerant movement through the system when on also carries oil with it. So in theory you should run your system to circulate the oil through the system from time to time. In practice, having pulled AC systems apart, the oil is everywhere anyway, so not sure it's necessary. An open system will certainly dry up, but the scope of this question is assuming your AC works. If you have a Fox with working AC, i would imagine most folks use it at least once a season.
Blower motors can rust up/corrode/seize etc. Dust gets in the vents. Might be worth testing the system from time to time to ensure it works and none of the vac lines to the registers have rotted off leaving you only with floor/defrost flow.
