Anyone ever modify the headlight pull knob?

I love the interior of the Mustang, except for the headlight knob. I hate driving a 2004 car that has a 1980s truck style headlight knob.

Are there any kits, or has anyone ever modified it to look more, well, modern? I searched but came up empty handed.

It's trivial, I know, but it bugs me.

yes, there are many vendors who sell the clip-on billet/chrome/brushed aluminum knob, and many other interior accessories.

I think he means to replace it with a dial or button.

I haven't seen a kit to do that, but most dimmers switches just have a regular wire bundle running to them. You could get a switch you like, and wire them separately for parking/low beams, then get a little rheostat of your choosing for the dimmer switch.

Hey stephen, I thought I was on the wrong forum for a second..

So you want to completely change the switch style, not just replace the knob, right? I haven't seen any kits out there, I assume you searched...

That pull out style is the same way they were in the classic 60's models right?

It's that way for a reason. All Mustangs from day one have the pull-style headlight switch. It is keeping with tradition. No one in there right mind would mess with that...

Just looking for something to mod? The stock switch is really very ergonomic. It's easier to turn ON or OFF than the twist ones on the turn signal levers.

I havent had a tech post in a long time.

I dont know of any vendors that make a switch.

I like the old fashioned pull knob, nice and simple - just needs some spicing up, like an MGW knob:

i wanna put a dial on mine too. i dont really have any idea how to do it though. I'm sure wiring wouldn't be a problem but mounting it to not look like **** would be a different story.

Um.. the Foxbody's don't have pull headlight switches... but... ok.

My only problem with the headlight pull knob is that it broke and came off on my '02 GT and I had a hell of a time turning the headlights on till I got a replacement. It hasn't been a problem with the '04 Mach 1 though.

I know...my 82 had it on the turn signal. Along with the horn. Now THAT was stupid.

They should have put in a switch a long time ago. But its not a big enough deal to not drive the car for. Its really pretty trivial.

Yeah, Foxes don't have pull switches, but I'll take the pull switch on my 02 over the dash mounted flipper that came on my 87 GT. The car was freakin brand new and I went through 3 switch modules in 3 years. Piece of **** design...
