More curious than anything else. Ford racing offers a 514 stroker that puts out a ton of horse (600 or 650hp can't remember) and I can get a good deal on it locally. Not entirely seriously considering this. Think a 408 stroker is plenty but I am tossing it around as it is cheaper (dunno about costs involved besides the motor, but all i got is a shell right now.)

edit: If it does work has anyone done it?

I just don't want to think about all of that weight on the front of the car. Wish I could afford an aluminum windsor block and stroke it!

Since I bought my GTO and have learned something about GM engines, I have really come to appreciate the LSx engines. VERY light, powerful, durable...it is really too bad we don't have something comparable to transplant into classics. The mod motor is as heavy as as big block!

i have pondered building a 460/AOD powered 67-70 stang or fairlane/torino, or even a falcon(66-70). drop on a set of aluminum heads, and the weight issue isnt as bad as a 390 in the same car.

yes, you can do it. but it is difficult due to fitment issues. not so hard now as people make parts for the swap, when I did my 429 we had to fab all new mounts and re-wire the entire electrical system.

An AOD would be awesome or a 5 speed.

I understand the custom mounts, but why would you have to re-wire the entire electrical system?

Electric fans, electric fuel pump, no voltage regulator, relocate the battery, different alternator, ignition kill switch, new ignition system, disabled neutral start switch, starter switch (not keyed)....I did not make the decision, my dad the electrical engineer did...I just got the fun put of running new wires under the dash and in the engine compartment.

FRPP doesn't (at least that i saw) The thing is that I can get a discount on FRPP parts (not sure on engines) and I don't have to have them shipped. I am really considering this option. Thing comes with the Super cobra jet head and a Victor Jr. intake manifold. Pop on a Race Demon carb and I am pretty much set. Some minor other little items but the engine is pretty much complete. I am considering a baffled rear sump oil pan but until i have the cash it at least has one :-)

Thanks for all the input. i was planning on the shelby hood so that is good to know it fits.

why stop at 514?......world products makes a BB Chevvy enging that can be stroked to a 750? and it would fit!

jokes aside, i love big engines! however, i decided to go with a big engine in a small package....they make a 460 small block (that comes in a crate engine) but u pay a high price for it. i chose the short block, and that alone is $4500. ouch

and that is the issue. Baby on the way means I have to watch the cash flow. And the 514 i can get for a better price then the 408W i was looking at. And the sound of the big blocks is just killer. I couldn't afford a 4500 short block.

As for the victor, if it won't clear the hood I would opt for the performer then, but I won't be racing on the street and at the strip I can drop it at 3500 so I don't see the rpm range as an issue.
