Does anybody have this spoiler??

Mustangs Unlimited - The Source for Mustang Parts, Shelby Parts, Cougar Parts and Accessories

I was thinking of putting one on my 1978 Mustang II. Just wondering how it holds-up over time? They also offer this one for $ 379.95 In my aplication it does not have to be Concours quality, but I don't want to buy a piece of &*^% either.

Should look right at home on a II me thinks??

If it fits I would say go for it, then add the rear louvers sold by Mustangs unlimited, black of course and you'll have a mini Mach 1.

I used to have one. Had it on my coupe til it got wrecked, then had it on my Cobra before I re-did it. I didn't like it so much on the hatchback, but that is my opinion. If I can find the pic of it, I will post it for you and let you make your own decision. There is only one that I know of, it isn't a very good pic, and I don't know where it is right off hand.

The GT350R is may Favorite, but I have had the II 15 years, and back then, Cobra II's and fake Cobra II's were the only II's I ever really saw, so I desided not to build a fake snake and keep the Mach a Mach. Mine is one of the only Mach's I have ever seen in my area. Most people are divided though.

While at car shows 50% of people often say:

"That thing needs the Cobra spoiler and spats"

and the other 50% say:

"I like the fact you didn't make it into a Cobra and kept it a Mach 1".

(due to road salt used in the winter most II's are dust)

love the car and the idea. the only thing that would go against it is the angle at which the spoiler would sit. the 69 & 70 cars has a flat area on the trunk lid and with no flat area on the II it might look a little awkward. why don't you see if you can get some dimensions and make a rough cardboard template, spray it black and see how it looks.

when you showed the pics right after it was painted i was not really sold on the idea but i have to tell you i am really liking the final product. the wheel change really made a big difference.

I think that given the Mach1 has it's own digit in the VIN, the production numbers are small. I believe that will give us an edge in keeping the Mach 1 true to the design. If we fall to adding the rear spoilers, spats and stripes, we will be thrown into that Cobra crowd and get lost in their large numbers (relatively speaking)
I have now gone to a number of shows and got great comments on my Mach 1. It seems like those who know cars, really appreciate the clean lines and the uncluttered car.
My favorite Mustang of all time would be the 68 Fastback in "Bullitt", which had a classic lines, terrific stance and was unclutterred with no scoops, spoilers, spats or stripes.
There seems to be passion out there for car owners that makes one keep on adding to the car. There comes a point where the car goes over the top with the add ons. In my opinion, what puts it over the top even quicker is painting everything that is added, a separate colour than the body colour.
Your car looks great and I believe the Magnums really set it off. The final decision is up to you. When you are talking to these people that are 50% saying you should add the stuff and the other 50% stating that they applaud you for keeping the Mach 1 theme; ask yourself, which group do I identify with and follow your gut from there.

Speaking of going over the top, I know I have added at least 100 lbs of body mods, but since it's not an original Cobra I don't mind modding it up just to win shows. The comments I get when out and about make it all worth while. I recently added the side spats, (test fit) and asked for opinions. About 70% in favor, so I will keep them on for a few shows and see if I like them, may be changing the side stripes as well to something different also? I get bored quickly and if I don't make changes I begin to think of selling and starting new projects but this car is just too much fun right now.

I don't think I am going to bother with the spoiler. The idea behind the car was to have a 1978 Shelby GT350R, bare bones no nonsence performace machine. The Mach 1 is kind of a pretty-boy option, so sometimes I get conflicted. They say not only does that spoiler not create downforce, it actually creates lift!! The T-top Mach 1 may not of been the best start for my vision. A base model II coupe may have been a better choice. The spoiler idea came from going to too many cruise nites and not enough race tracks this summer LOL

I know a lot of you are negative on the idea of the Cobra spoiler on the Mach, but personally I really like it. There's a picture many of you have probably seen in some of the Mustang photo books out there, of a blue '78 T-top Mach 1 that has the Cobra spoiler with a Mach 1 decal on it, off to the side about where the Cobra II logo is on a '76-77. If I had a Mach, that's exactly what I would do. The Cobra spoiler has been proven to improve the aerodynamics of the II (slightly).

I do agree that putting Le Mans style stripes on a Mach 1 is a travesty.

If one had the leMans stripes, then the Cobra Spoiler is a must because those stripes just do not suit a car without a spoiler.
Having said that, the spoiler really improves the look of the II from the rear angle, however, if one looks at it from the side, I find that it shortens the look of the car. In Canada, and apparently in the US as well (as evidenced by many of the photos with the spoilers taken off the hatch) the spoiler breaks the paint and hides a rust condition going on under it.
IMO, anything that is not functional, just creates more drag.
