Anyone have a balljoint or tie rod fail?

I haven't had one fail, and I foolishly drove my Mustang for several years with absolutely horrible worn out front suspension. It was so bad I was nervous every time I got on the highway, but I still did it. :nonono:

Saw em a lot when I fixed cars for a living. Never let mine get that far though.

First car I bought was a 69 Galaxie and the lower control arm broke in half. I had owned it for abot a week and hadn't had a chance to inspect it on a hoist yet. Bought my first Mustang to replace it.

Only in my POS daily driver (90 hyundai excel)

Tie rod came apart. Really weird as everything was just checked out a couple of weeks prior and the suspension/steering was nice and tight (for a hyundai).

Came apart as I drove over some train tracks. I noticed the steering was a little "loose" but kept driving as it was a straight stretch. Then came to an intersection, went to make a left hand turn at 30mph and all hell broke loose. Next thing I know my front drivers tire is screeching REALLY loud and I was no longer turning. Car stopped in the middle of the intersection and I got out to see the front tires pointing in opposite directions. Drivers tire was almost completely sideways and touching the inner fender.

I managed to turn the tire straight by hand, then slowly drove the car off to the side of the road. Replaced the tie-rod and took the car in for an alignment. Told them to check the other tie-rod and the rest of the suspension really closely. They came back and said everything was perfect, but offered to replace it anyway if that's what I wanted. I said no, and everything has been fine for 20,000miles or so.

Not on a stang, but on my old '70 Ford Country Squire station wagon. Hit the ditch at 40 mph and took out a couple of mail boxes and 150' of barbed wire fence. It sure did skin up my genuine fake wood grain.
