I'll hopefully be picking one up this week, but I just wanted to find out what the advantages, if any, are over a stock replacement. My stock rack has a lot of play in it and it's somewhat dangerous at highway speed.

hey man i got one from blueoval pretty cheap. It def tightened up my steering, not 100% but it was a very noticable difference. like you said especially on the highway it gets rid of that numb spot right in the middle.

I think you're talking about the shaft. I already have the shaft and didn't notice much improvement. I'm about to get the whole rack.

Anyone know if it's a direct swap?

I have an 03 complete rack and pinion on my 95 cobra. It was a direct boltup. I got it becuase of the quick ratio steering. You'll notice that right away. Only thing I had to do was get an alignment done.

No, it takes less rotation of your steering wheel to turn the car in a corner than the stock(old) rack and pinion.

For "example" only:

Lets say it took 4 rotations of the steering wheel to the left before you could not turn it any more. With the quick ratio it would take, lets say 3 rotations. Thats why they call it a "QUICK RATIO". It takes less physical movement in the steering wheel to turn the tire the same amount, so you get to the desired turning degree qiucker.
I got it to help with road racing (SCCA) type of racing....lots of turns and some very tight ones too.

Hope this explains what your asking nmcgrawj. The actual turning ratias is the same I believe. If I stated anything incorrectly, someone tell me. I want to give out accurate information.

hard to find a new one. Most ford dealers will sell remans which can have play in them.

Steering radius is reduced in any 99+ rack, as the rack doesn't have the same limiters in it that the 94-98 do. However, beware, this can result in scrubbing your tires against the suspension in some scenarios.
