How's it sound??

I'm in the market for a new mid-pipe, and debating the magnaflow catted H-pipe and X-pipe

MagnaFlow 93338 - MagnaFlow Direct-Fit Catalytic Converters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

MagnaFlow 93332 - MagnaFlow Tru-X Stainless Steel Crossover Pipes - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Of course, the H-pipe is cheaper. I may also ditch the flows for a straight thru muffler like the magnaflows later on.

Also, i'm just debating Long tubes as well.

I have an offroad X with Flowmasters. Personally I love the sound. A bit raspy compared to an H, but loud as hell if you stand on the pedal. I think Magnaflows sound like **** personally.

I have the Magnaflow catted H ( due to emissions) Its a nice piece and fits well, doesnt hang too low either so you get some decent clearance if your lowered. I love the sound of it now since i switched over to 40 Series Flows. I also didnt like the sound of the Magnaflow mufflers.

I have a catted X with 3 chambered flows. It sounds good. Not a "huge" difference in sound from an H. The off rd X has a more pronounced difference.
Today I got a x-mas tree, stuck it out the back of the hatch while tying it down so it was open a few feet. I REALLY got to hear the flows for a change in stead of just hearing them inside the car. It sounded killer!!!

Maybe i'll go with the catted H-pipe since it's a few bucks cheaper.

Figure i should have enough in summit racing gift cards for the pipe and a set of springs for my GT-40P's this Xmas

Downside is now i need to find a smog pump setup first before I install the pipe.

Mac shorties, Mac off-road X, with flowmasters, and tailpipes that are temporary. We set the tailpipes to see what it would sound like, it normally has nothing after the muffler.

you guys hate magnaflows? wow...

i get NOTHING but compliments on mine. ford guys, chevy guys, doesn't matter. i have bbk equal length, o/r h-pipe, and magnaflow catback with 3.5" tails.

no drone inside the car (why i got rid of flowmasters), fairly mild noise while cruising and screams at WOT.

Thanks guys, but i already have an H-pipe with flows (i have off-road as well) so i have a good idea how that sounds.

My question was regarding the X-pipe with flows. Does anyone have a clip of that?

IMO...i think an X-pipe with flows will sound raspy..I think an X pipe with Mac sounds better...Flows i think should be behind an H pipe,,Just my opinon...Then again...I might go with an X pipe on my 87 with maybe spintechs or the new cherry bomb vortec muffler...heard one in person sounded aweseome....

I honestly can't believe people still run flowmasters on fox body mustangs with the amount of available choices out there nowadays. I feel like guys sacrifice performance in the effort of chasing some nostalgic sound that really isn't that great anyway. No one really likes drone loud enough to rattle the fillings out of your head.

IMO, in terms of sound, X pipe<H pipe.

I never knew that Magnaflow made a catted H pipe. It looks like a nice quality piece. If you are staying with shorty's, I would go that route, but personally I would recommend LT's with a catted or off road H & magnaflow mufflers if you want your car quiet while cruising, but nice & loud when you mash the gas...

My car has Mac LT's, Mac o/r H, & a custom catback with 18" long Magnaflows. Its pretty mellow until you floor it, which I didn't like at 1st, but now I love the way it sounds. But then again, I am 30+, & have outgrown the "loud all the time" exhaust setups...

No, your posts don't matter

That's not exactly a mostly stock motor. It's hard to figure what it would sound like without the h/c/i. It does sound great though.

My 91 has an o/r X with mac. But it also has a s/c 351 with h/c/i so it really isn't worth posting unless someone wants to hear that combo. (Don't bother asking, I don't have any sounds clips of that one yet )

To be honest. I LOVE the drone. I wish there was more of it.

I agree with you in a way that there is much more performance to be had looking elsewhere form Flows. Kinda why i was debating the X-pipe, and a switch to some other exhaust.

Either way, i need an H-pipe. Like i posted before, i'm running a stock 4-cat pipe and suspect they are clogged due to struggling at high RPM's and slow revving. (checked out everything else...only thing that makes sense)

I'd like to do LT's, but i really want to do a mod motor swap down the road, so right now i might stick with the shortys and this magnaflow pipe.

Either gotta find a set of Used FMS P headers, or make my BBK headers with with GT-40P's. I don't want to spend a ton of money on an exhaust i'll have to change down the road...even though i'm sure i can easily sell it.

If you like drone the new super 44's i have has tons of it..And im almost 39 yrs old if it to loud you must be old..LOL..I drive a mustang I want to be heard...IMO the car wouldnt sound/look right with no sound at idle or quiet at idle...I love loud exhaust THAT sounds Nice not loud and crappy sounding if you get my drift...

Next exhaust is for my 87 GT with GT40 heads and intake and supercharger I might go with an Off road X and spintechs...
