I'm not looking for hood pins or anything, I'm thinking about a lock that would assemble to the stock mechanism.

I would like the car set up so the hood can't just be opened by anyone at anytime. Has anyone done this? Where did you buy it, or did you fabricate something?

Just looking for ideas.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the feed back. I don't want to cut any holes in my hood.

I was thinking it would be nice to have my car set up so people can't just walk up and open the hood at any time. I'm sure it will be a really long time before I have a pretty engine compartment.

I have a convertible, so the car is never locked. The engine compartment is just a small part of the problem. :(

My father, the junkyard engineer, installed a hoodlock from a mid '70s big Oldsmobile (but don't ask me which one, 'cause he doesn't remember anymore). Its the kind that has a release that you install under the dash. Apparently it was pretty much a bolt in deal and didn't require any mods to the hood, latch, bolt holes, or anything. He simply aligned it to use the original hood catch bar. We originally thought we'd have to modify the safety catch release since its pretty short, but even with my fat short fingered hands, I can reach between the hood and grille to press it down (or does it push up... I can't remember right now, and I'm in Seattle, and the car is in Tampa). I think the only fabrication that had to be done is that pops made a new bracket to mount the release pull under the dash.

Hope this helps.

I had a hood lock that was connected to my alarm but the thing was so tempermental that I took it off. I recently bought an inside release hood lock kit from California Mustang for about $35. I haven't put it in yet as my car isn't running but it looks like it is pretty solid. Anyways, here is the info:
