Anyone hooked up an ipod or other mp3 player?

I am looking at getting an ipod, but has anyone else hooked one up to their stang yet? If you have any cool photos of good ideas, I'd like to see them.
Also, is the Aux button for something like this?

hey,
Sorry, I don't have pictures, but I do use my ipod in my car. It's very simple. I have an fm transmitter. It's one cord, plugs into the outlet right above the stereo and the ipod itself, that's it. You just tune your radio to a station with no existing broadcast, (the transmitter has about 8 or 9 stations to cycle through, so you should have no problem finding an open station)

this is it, I highly recommend it... the transmitter itself looks cool, is small and simple, and actually matches the styling of the mustang's interior, especially if you have red leather

Why hookup the ipod? Your Shaker plays mp3's. If you filled 6 discs with mp3's you would have over 4 gigs of music loaded.

a. the shaker systems blow
b. therefore I didn't get one

I use my Ipod with an FM transmitter and it sucks. The sound is just not that good, especially here in LA where every station is taken.

My response wasn't for you, it was for the original poster of the thread, and he does have a Shaker.

Good luck with your crappy FM reception tho. How bad is the loss of sound quality?

my apologies on the confusion

the reception is fine, there is one station that comes in very clearly for the transmitter, i live in metro detroit where there are plenty of radio stations, so I guess i'm lucky it works

the loss of sound quality? the ipod itself has low quality in comparison to any cd, so the transmitter really has no audible effect on top of what the ipod outputs

granted, i'm not trying to say that everyone should go buy an ipod to replace cds in their car, that would be like driving in a hazmat suit, the ipod is just for convenience... and if you already have one, an fm transmitter is not a bad way to go (as long as you don't live in a "radio congested" area like LA)

I don't have an ipod but I do use an XM Roady2, also FM modulated (should be similar) I put mine inbetween the air vents above the radio I also had it they docking station hard wired in to eliminate messy wires and I hid my antenna wire too. Here's a pic

I love my Ipod, and I can use it in the car, and heck I did today. It's just that sometimes it's real staticky, and you lose any top end. I find myself having to always boost the treble on the Ipod in the car to make it sound decent. Plus of course, with everything on there I think I have at 128 kbps, it's not CD-quality anyway.

I use an FM transmitter for my Ipod as well. Sometimes it is a pain in the butt to find a stantion in a larger city. The quality isnt as good as a CD, but for a long trip it's great.

I'm still wondering it's not worth it to maybe take the radio out and somehow hook up a line to run to that auxiliary port that I bet is in the back of the Shaker. Yeah you might have a little wire coming out the front, but at least you could hook the iPOd right into the radio.

I have the FM transmitter and have had no problems with sound quality. Like some others said, it isn't as great as a CD, but it is better than having to carry all of your CDs around, especially if you are like me and have a habit of misplacing them. The transmitter is a little costly, but I love it for road trips.

Wow, I have a Shaker system? I didn't know that. I could have sworn it was just the regular CD player... oh wait, it is just the regular CD player. Good one.

When it comes to MP3 Cds the Shaker 500 sucks. I made a Cd with about 30 folders totaling about 150 songs. When I put the cd in it takes about 5 minutes to read the disk before it will start playing anything. Every time you switch cds they have to reload. This means if I run out to get a 6pack and I put a mp3 cd in, it might not even be finished loading till Im at the store.

Also the display system is horrible, It doesn't let you scroll around and fine a song by title, like most after market MP3 reviever will. You have to memorize which folder is which to navigate to a song you want. Whats the point!

I don't know why Delphi couldn't make a mp3 player that loads in a resonable amount of time. I'm looking into getting a Clarion....

I was going to try to hook up my ipod to my Shaker 1000. We discovered that there is no auxillary port in the back of the Shaker 1000. You would think there would be since there is an aux button on the danged thing, but it must have cost too much to put 2 holes in the back! Car Audio friend of mine said you'd have to mess with the wiring harness. I think I'll stay with the ipod transmitter, it works good in my area.

I have been looking for an ipod adaptor for a while for my '67 stang, and found that Pioneer is coming out very soon with a stereo adaptor that sounds good, though I have yet to hear about any tests...

For the cost of the Shaker 1000, get Clarion's VRX755VD. Integrated iPod interface on a 7 inch touchscreen lcd that plays DVDs. Of course CD, AM/FM, MP3, CD-RW, etc, etc. This product was huge at the Consumer Electronic Show in January.

I would have to disagree with you on this point. I use a fairly high quality FM transmitter with the Shaker 500 in my Mustang, and get adequate - but not spectacular results. There is always some level of static or hum, regardless of the station that I select. I plug the same MP3 player into the Aux port of my BMW X3, and the sound quality is far superior - to my ears, the equivalent of audio CD or MP3 CD. By the way, for comparison purposes, I tried the FM transmitter in the BMW, and the quality was the same as in the Mustang.

For me, the FM transmitter option is a temporary solution only until someone comes up with an interface for a direct connection.

I posted an update to my post above. The Dension representative that contacted me said the more people that send their info, the more likely the company will get this particular item out on the market. Their ice>link has received very good reviews. And, above all, this item is BLACK! Not tacky Apple white... So you can attach this to your dash without it sticking out like a sore thumb.
