Anyone Install A Hitch On Their Mustang?

Ya'll need to pull out your January 06 "Hot Rod" magazines and turn to page 39 and you will see a silver 05 GT with a uhaul in tow entering Hot Rod/ Comp Cams drag week. On page 61 you will see Jay Brown's 69 R code 428 powered Mach 1 toting a trailer to the event, by the way Jay Brown won the NA BB Trophy. He did have a mishap where his trailer came off odf the ball and hit his deck lid and leave a dent, hard to tell in this photo, but it happened:

Only Hillbillies put trailer hitches on Mustangs :D
I guess that makes me a "hillbilly" then,:D :SNSign: Cause first chance I get, the 06 is going to get "hitched" . :D "Aint no feelin, like that towin mobilin":D My old 67 fastback with it's 390 then later the 427, had a hitch and quite a few times I waxed a few trucks, while towin my utility trailer. Only thing worse is loadin up a lot of crap in the car for a trip, and you can't see squat out the back windows, and don't forget unloading all the other crap from the trunk, to access the spare tire when you get a flat on a trip.:rlaugh: If you don't like to tow stuff when it's necessary, then don't put down those of us who choose to do things safely and stylishly when we do. It ain't your car, you ain't payin my notes.:nono: The GT Stang is perfectly capable of towing small, light trailers such as JetSki's or FourWheeler trailers. :nice:

Thanks for the link, I just ordered one for my 06 GT:nice: Eat my shorts, Tyler65:D :SNSign:

Awesome!

Post some pics when you get it installed. I'd like to see how it lines up, and to see if it's hidden.

I want to get one but only if it doesn't stick out.

My only car is a stang, and I'll need it to tow may aluminum fishing boat.

i don't know what you guys are going on about a trailer being gay or stupid.....i have a custom made hitch that the whole assembly comes off and tow a small trailer with my race tires on the back......these tires are non DOT approved and expensive as hell, and will not waste them driving on them to the race track....

Obviously some of you guys were not around for the Infamous EXCON. I Believe that is how Jenn got the Mod position by trying to deflect him from Pi$$in everybody off. That is why you see some of the reply's are negative...come on after all that was almost a year ago.

What? Do some people get upset because others want to ocassionally tow items with their Mustangs?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get this. Would you walk up to a stranger in a parking lot and say "Hey, I like your car, but the hitch you put on Sucks!"?

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the thread was created to gather information, and not criticism. Everyone has an opinion about what a Mustang should do or look like. I don't think that this is the proper venue for blasting people who want to use their automobile for more than just a show car.

I personally am looking for a hitch that when not in use doesn't detract from the style of the mustang. Since I can't seem to find any photos Online, I thought I'd ask my fellow Mustang owners if they had any photos or ideas. The intent wasn't to receive criticism on my choice.

EXACTLY.
I feel the hidden hitch on mine makes it a much more useful car. If I need to, I can rent a small trailer and move stuff around, or as you can see from the picture, I can put a couple of skis or bicycles on a rack. How else can you do any of this with a convertible, besides get another vehicle?
When I buy my 07 GT vert, I will put a hidden reciever hitch on it right away. On my 00, unless you look underneath, you can't even tell it's there...

The hitch came in yesterday, I'm going to try and get it on the Stang today or tomorrow. PM me with your email address and I'll send you pics when it's on.:nice: I'd post them here but have never been able to do so.

With a receiver style hitch you really don't notice the hitch anyway except for when it is in use. For the SN195, Reese made a model called the Shadow hitch that had a very flat and hard to see drawbar. For the S197, the drawbar is the more typical 1 1/4" but I doubt it will stand out. As already mentioned, its a great way to bring your bikes along when you own a convertible. The bumper/hatch bike racks tend to mar the paint no matter how careful you are.

Got the hitch on. The hitch I bought is the Drawtite brand. Took about two hours and a few choice words :D to get it done. Hardest part is reinstalling the muffler brackets. :bang: You have to remove all four to install the hitch. No drilling or cutting to install it. Only part that's visible is the 1-1/4" reciever that protrudes out from underneath the rear valance panel. It wouldn't hurt either to have the drawbar shortened a couple inches, it sticks too far out to suit me. Those extra inches add to handling problems sometimes. Took a few pics but some didn't come out (too dark) Three did turn out OK. I'm going to take more tomorrow in the daylight.

No not at all... the thread was post by a fellow that called all the 05 owners Rednecks and could not talk enough about how thw o5 stang was a POS compared to his BMW's and other cars that he claimed to have owned so this thread was created to stirr the pot to once again refer to the stang owner as a redneck who puts a hitch on his stang....Which I do not agree with because I use my car as my work vehical so I am also according to EXCON a Redneck.

I think that you could probably tow a lot more than the factory specs with the mustang if you took it easy.:nice:
