Anyone know car titles in Oregon?

Well I moved back to Oregon, which has stricter rules regarding it. They told me that I need to bring the car into the DMV to have a Vin inspection done.

What LEGAL course of action do I have? Do I apply for a new title? A lost one? I have been putting this off for to long.

I'm guessing that they will make you apply for a new title. As I recall, that runs about $300 when all fees are paid.

Good question.

I would apply for a lost title, they will do a search to see if there are any leans against it, or any reports of it being stolen, and will contact the last licensed state to find out who the last registered owner was... but if its not hot, you should get your new title in about 90 days.


NOTE: imho ... DO NOT mention that you have a title, much less that it doesnt match... just give a sob story about "bought it years ago.... meant to restore..... never got around to it..... now cant find the title.... etc."


OH, you might also check the numbers on the block, some states have been known to use those numbers from time to time... perhaps that happened to your car at some distant point in the past.
