i just bought my 98 gt and i forgot to ask the previous owner what this is. have any of you guys seen this before? it is just hanging to the left of my steering wheel.

Yup, its for indiglo or glo gauges. I assume they are installed, it will make them brighter or tone them back depending if you push up for down

When i bought my car the person who had it before me had no idea how to hook up gauge faces and the ones he had on wouldnt glow or anything, at night i couldnt see any of the numbers. I got some new faces from ebay for like 15 bucks. Needless to say i wasnt a big fan and ended up buying a whole new cluster from a junk yard for $50.

Yeah those are for indiglo or reverse glow gauges. It just changes the color and brightness. Assumeing the guy actually installed the gauges. On my 94, I mounted that to the bottom of the steering column, out of sight. Cause it looked like crap and rice.

the wires werent long enough to mount it anywhere else so i just tucked it back behind the dash. i dont think this will cause any issues because there was enough room for me to just bunch it up without touching anything else. i have no need to be using it daily so i figured this worked for me.
