I've been wanting to run against a C5 for a long time, but I can't ever seem to find anyone driving a C5 that is willing to race. It always seems to be an old guy in his 40s or 50s driving around real slow that won't even get it over 2000 RPMs . I know someone out that has to have raced a C5 before, and I'm curious as to what happened. They're supposed to run about the same quarter mile time as a Mach1, stock, but I'm wondering what would actually happen if they raced head to head on the street or on the track somewhere....

Nah all Corvette drivers are wankers, I've tried to race several and your right they just turn up they're nose like they're all that and wont race. I think they see "Saleen" on the side and the Supercharger guages and don't want to get embarrassed in there shiny "Corvette" ooohhh.... wankers....

Dude....my dad with his 50th Anniv Special Edition Vette is EXACTLY that! never over 2K rpms!! What is it with the older crowd? It is a performance car (except it is a chebby....) so bang on it every once in a while!! It'll thank you for it later!

I actually did run in to a middle aged gentlemen once that had enough nuts to race. This guy snuck up on me in traffic actually looking for a race I think, my room-mate and I were just minding our own business and next thing ya know I look in my rear view mirror at the nose of a Vette sniffin my butt. This guy swerves into the right lane real hard and punches it and goes flyin by me, so right away my roomie and I are thinking WTF, look at each other and swap an, "AH HELL NO!"
Dude catches up to the cars in front of him after he wastes his gas on me, and being the nice young lad that I am, I give him the thumbs up and patiently wait for another opening in traffic.
We got a brief break so we punched it and I put a quick hurtin on him. Once we got to a more open space the guy was signaling me to lower my window, so I did and he gave me this excuse shouting across the highway, "I DIDN'T GET INTO IT! LETS GO AGAIN!"
So needless to say, me being 22 years old and fearless I drop to 3rd and we go from about 65-70 and I put a good car and half/two cars on this guy by 140mph. We swapped thumbs up and went our seperate ways.

Next time I saw this guy in town I teased him a little bit and he gave me all this B/S about his ECU went bad when he put his exhaust on. I pretended like I cared and went about my day.
But that is my C5 racing story that I wanted to share, and sorry to offend those "anti-street racers" out there.

Most of 'em won't run.

So , it's always nice when you get one to play !

Had fun w/ a Z06 on the Beltway one time - playing chase at 120 or so , but I abandoned that run !

The other one was a 0 - 110 run on Clay Road - had him by a car or so from the get go to the end.

Of course, that was when I had the 2800 stall converter in - it's back to stock now, so who knows how I would fare in a second go round.

Nice.....thats badass that an old guy was willing to race. Good kill, man. You have alot more stuff done to your car than i do, so it kinda makes me wonder how I would do with me being basically stock. I guess i'll run across one someday.

I have raced several C5s in my Mach 1.

They are a close race. I have beat a few and barely gotten beaten by a couple and then I ran into a MTI Vette with 427....he hurt my feelings....I thought my car died he was so far ahead.

I raced a C6 also and he beat me, but not until 110 mph. I was surprised but I had my Nittos..Makes sense though cause they trap so high. I trap 107. I n all fairness he might have not known how to drive it cause he should have spankled me pretty good.

I am more scared of a Ram Air then a C5......seems like there isn't a stock one left. LS1s run well when modded.

yep, those C5 guys won't even jump when I give them an earful of flowmasters (probably lucky for me), but the guys in C4 Vettes on the other hand must be nothing but grown up ricers, they seem to even want to race the fed ex trucks

Here's my funniest C5 kill.

And I beat C5's all the time.

On the way home one night, I pass a c5 corvette. As soon as I pass him, he revs and launches his car next to me and then throughs his hazards on. So this instigates me to go ahead an race him. We get though some traffic(not racing just moving through them to get a clear spot), and find an open area. As I pull up next to him he gets on it, I just down shifted and took off after him. After maybe half way through the gear he throughs the hazards on again. I was furious! So I got next to him again, and this time I was ready, but he rolled down his window and yelled"Hey, I'll give you a car length since you need it in that mach 1!" I yell back"Bull ****ing ****!" he continues"Well you better take that mach on back home" "Bull **** lets go!" So we got on it from a roll again and I start to pull him at the top of 2nd and he missed third. I got in front of him and of course put the hazards on. And with luck we caught the next light. Of course the windows are down, "I missed a gear!" "Don't let it happen gain, because I"m about to wax your ****ing ass!" "Whatever" ................... Light turns green, I let him launch first, we take off. By the top of first I"m passing him, hit second...hit third, just pulling away...I see he's still not giving up...hit forth and stayed burried into it...135 mph..I was about 5-6 cars out on him. I through the hazards and slow down. I roll down ready for another conversation...instead I see he has the windows up and he's staying in the throttle. So I give a nice thumbs down as he "roars" by and runs the red light so he won't be next to me. LOL!

I know this isn't the attitude you will find on most message board members in corvettes..but to me...this is the typical corvette owner. This is why I will not own a corvette. "most" corvette owners are so full of themselves and cocky, they think their car is the fastest car around.

Anyways, after that I was feeling pretty good! LOL!

Sorry, I had to post it.

'99 TA that is probably the same guy......expensive setup.

My cousin saw the older guy smoking a cigerette the whole time he spanked me. He still teases me about the old guy spanking me and never even puttin down his smoke.

My C5 Story began with an old man I had to pester all up and down Woodlands Parkway to get him to put down his cigar. His wife was in the car w/T-tops off and thought he'd show me a thing or two! Ha! He wouldn't even give me a look at the next light. Sounds like there's a lot of H-towners here! wowoo

Negotiate on the used Mach 1s, they can be bought cheaper than that.

look around, there are some deals.

I have a 5 sp. and my girl has an auto. They are cloaser than most would like to admit, or maybe my girls is a freak. I run faster 1/4 time, but her car is fast from a roll. 5 speeds are always more fun, but the autos in the AMchs aren't as bad as the old auto trans in the earlier models.

The one I test drove - an ' 03 , I , ran like a raped ape below 60.

I never got a chance to take it beyond that.

I would have bought it, but could not make the $'s/ trade in work.

Oh, well.

Good luck - oh, get an Orange one - those are cool , and few & far between !

I don't know about your area in Texas, but up here in the Mid-Atlantic area, that's not a bad price. There seems to be a phenomenon at work that is driving up the prices of used Mach 1's and 03/04 models in general. Dealers can't get enough new 05's for customers, so they are searching out nice clean 03/04 models to have some type of Mustang product on their lots to sell, and they are willing to pay a premium (imagine that!) to get these cars. Back in January, around here a nice clean low mileage Mach 1 could be had for about $17K, now you can't touch one for less than $24k!

Well i picked up my 2004 mach 1 last night (6-28-05) and have loved every second of it. dealer tried to get me for 1500 down, and 2200 for my 98gt, 600 plus monthly payments for 60 months, went to my credit union for help, went back and after a few hrs go them to go to 25000 from 25988, put 1500 down kept the 98 gt, financin 24,8xx after taxes etc, payments are under 475! im 20 so insurance is almost just as much! the one i picked up is white also, never seen one in my area, seen a yellow, work with 2 reds, and seen orange and 2 greys!
