The only reason that I ask is that I just ended up replacing the alt in my wifes car and it was just under 30k and it is a 2003 model. I checked the belt tension before and after replacement and it is within spec. Is this a common occurance or should I have something else checked out?

P.S. Once I replaced the alternator I was able to cure the problem. I just don't want to have to replace it every 30k.

Mine was replaced under warranty (along with the battery) at 25K miles. I didn't have any problems with it other than the battery light on the dash would flicker on and off every now and then - not constantly and no real consistency to the issue either. At first, they only replaced the battery, but the problem persisted. Then the next week, the ALT was swapped and the problem went away.
