I am just curious. The question includes remanufactured engines from Ford, too.

I'm running a rebuilt shortblock, .030 over HV pump Moly rings hyper pistons.... rod crank .010 under

Why do you ask? It's a common practice

"Remanufactured" as in the kind you buy from large suppliers who do hundreds or thousands of engines each week. The typical auto parts stores sell them (Kragen, Schucks, Autozone, etc). They are not custom made; they are generic engines built to generic specs. Thanks for asking. Maybe this will clarify for people.

Well I wouldn't use a "REMAN" engine at all, Ive seen the engines that come out of those places & they never last.

It's a .30 5.0 available when you blew your engine up 2 weeks after you bought your car back in the day.

I have kinda always wondered how well the remanufactured engines from a parts store would hold up as well. I know my neighbor got a long block from a parts store for his '87 GT for $1200.00. That seems kinda cheap to me for a long block. It also didn't have any sort of info with it like what kind of pistons were used or how much of an overbore it recieved. It seems to run ok at the moment though.

I had one put in back before I knew better... I still have it with over 20,000 mi on it but after 9 months the thrust bearing broke and let the crank walk back and forth about 3/4 of an inch... Oil pressure went to 10 psi while driving.. i have since had a new crank installed and it is still runnning

The place that used to do Ford engines was only a few miles from here. It was just like the businesses that do the engines for the auto parts stores.

Personally i really wouldnt mind having a 'brand new' 302 in my car, considering the amount of abuse and reasonable power output they make right from the factory. The problem is, i wouldnt pay the price of the new engine and go through the trouble of swapping motors just to end up 'stock' again. Maybe for a daily driver or a restoration type thing.

I got a Recon reman engine in my 87. I got it at my work, Advance Auto, after my discount the long block was under a grand. So far so good, about 5000 miles on it and it hauls some ass for a reman. Recon makes many remanufactured engines, there even advertized in the 5.0 Magizine.

The commission the autoparts stores make off of those engine can only be accomplished my cheap parts in the Reman motors to justify their low price. Go to a local machine shop, have them put what YOU want in, get good rings, build it for what you want. Be confident.. I've never trusted those engines. Sure they run, but is it what you want?

Its all I wanted on my 87, its my girlfriends daily driver now. My car is my daily driven/ track car.

A friend of mine has run a Ford remanufactured block that was a 30 over motor. It was a 1990 block with forged pistons that he bought from Ford. He has been running it for 8 years now and it goes 10.80's. I think it was a Fred Jones Ford remanufactured motor.

Well in my younger years I have worked for pep boys & Auto zone (yes I'm ashamed but it was a discount on parts) & about 80% of the time the engines came back with something wrong with them... just my .02

Just put a Remanufactured short block in my car... It is a 306 with hypo pistons... It runs strong and I had it dynoed at 344 HP at the rear wheels... I have not ran it at the track yet though...

Those are good numbers for P heads. Did you replace the provided cam with your own? What company was the builder?

Yes I took the stock cam out and replaced it with the TFS Cam...I love the idle of that cam...

Really, who remans their engines? ATK used to do Advances engines and YES they HAD problems. Recon now does them, and we have yet to have one returned.

ReCon & ATK were sold at pep boys, advanced auto was ATK while I was there... & I had just as many come backs on the recons(actually more than ATK)

How long ago did you work in the parts store buisness? Maby they have improved. So far so good on my engine.
