Anyone Running ZEX or Venom N20 in Their GT?

My brother has a Zex system in his 96 GT. He installed it about two years ago. I believe he has a 75 shot. I don't know exactly how many times he has used it in that time, but it still works. His mustang still runs as well as it did prior to the installation.

I think it takes $30 to fill the bottle each time. You also have to fill up with premium or supreme whichever is higher.

Not trying to be a smarta$$, but rather guide you in the right direction - there is a power adder forum here where you might find more info on nitrous oxide.

Nitrous you say? Yes, it is safe, if you do things right. Just don't get carried away and be sure to use all the safety features. Here is the lowdown:

1 - 100 shot is generally considered safe. 125 is marginal. 150 is still OK, but you risk running lean w/o a fuel system upgrade.

2 - Go with a kit from a respectable company.

3 - You have two main options: dry or wet. They both have advantages and disadvantages. Wet is when you add fuel and nitrous together and dry is when you just add the nitrous by itself and add more fuel through the existing injectors. For serious nitrous users looking for big hp, wet is the only way to go. Some say wet is less safe becauses you risk having the fuel pool in the top of the intake and risk an explosion. This is true, but preventable if you take the proper precautions. The Venom system that you mentioned is a dry system. Systems like these add nitrous to the intake and then use a computer module to read the o2 sensors. Based on the reading, the computer pulses the fuel injectors to add more or less system. This approach is considered very safe, BUT it relies on too many things to work correctly and in unison. For example, the 02 sensor could say one thing, but you could burn a piston because one injector gets slightly blocked. I personally believe wet is the most reliable and best performing way to go. You always get more hp with wet than with dry systems for the same shot.

4 - No matter which system you choose, you need the following:

WOT Switch - This ensures that the nitrous only activates when at wide open throttle. Most of the new kits include this mechanism.

Bottle Warmer - This ensures that the bottle pressure is consistent. A must with a wet system but not mandatory with dry.

Pressure Guage - So you know pressure is consistent. ZEX has a cool kit that interfaces with bottle pressure really nice.

Window Switch - This is a device that insures that the nitrous won't fire unless you are within a particular, preset rpm range. 3000 - 6000 is a good range. This way if you hit the rev limitor they system will have already shut off the nitrous. A window switch is a must with any nitrous system, especially wet.

Purge Valve - This is a "nice to have" feature. Allows the driver to purge the line of air before using the system.

I hope this helps. Ask lots of questions and read up as much as you can.

The purge valve is also great from an intimidation standpoint too - it'll scare the crap out of the dude in the lane next to you!
