Anyone use Champion spak plugs?

It seems that Champion is the only manufacturer that makes a plug equivalant to a BF32. All the cross references suggest a 45 which is what I have now. Its too bad I can't find the right one. All the cross ref. sites give a plug 2 to 3 heat ranges for one number (NGK, Denso, Autolite, Bosch). I'm a little leary about using Champions as I have been toldthey are good for Lawnmowers and Volks Wagens and other air cold engines.

I have champions on my mustang. Champions are very common on aircraft engines also.

Never had a problem with the plug but I did have hard time cross referencing heat values.. Dont remember what range Im running though, sorry.

I have seen many, many, Denso spark plugs get the piss beat out of them, with very crappy quality gas which ate up the electrode and still run just fine.

NGK and Denso both have numbers for the correct heat range plugs, you may have to dig to find it but they do have them.

NGK a WR5 but it was listed for two heat ranges. Denso seemed to be like NGK where their plug seemed to cover two heat ranges when crossed referenced to BF32.

IIRC the 69 351w used both the BF-32 and BF-42 one for the 2v and one for the 4v, can't remember which is which though. Partsamerica.com shows 2 different NGK plugs (same series) for the 69 351 one for the 2v and one for the 4v

What are you using these in? BF42's are fine for 99.9% of SBF engines today.

Thanks for the plug info bnickel. D.Hearne Thengine I am using them in is a .30 over 302 w/ TRW Forged pop ups (10.4cc dome) and D00E 351W Heads. I have some detonation unless I back off the timing a bit but I also lose some power. I was hoping the colder plugs will let me bump the timing back up a bit.

What octane fuel are you feeding it? I used to run BF32's in a 12 to 1 427, but even then I couldn't really tell if they helped or hurt. That was back when I was still running points. My 10.4 to 1 331 digests 93 octane Chevron Premium with 12* initial timing with nary a ping. It does have Canfield Aluminum heads but even when it's running at 235* it still doesn't ping. Cam is a Ford Z303. Plugs are Autolite 3924's. You might also try running a cooler T-stat and see if that helps.

I'm runnin a 160* thermostat and always run 93 octane, not always chevron though. My cam is an Edelbrock Performer RPM. The engine was put together in 1992 and hasn't been run much since 1993 'til recently.

champions are ok plugs, my only issue with them was the lack of durability compared to the autolite plugs. i will say i like champions far better than ac plugs, those things were junk.

I would question whomever said that. Champion makes plugs suitable for just about all spark ignition applications.....including jet turbine igniters. There are RC12YCs in my '68 right now and have been since I put the engine together years ago.

i've had many, many champion plugs fail long before they should have, even in lawn mowers, that's why we started using NGK plugs exclusively at my dad's lawn mower and lawn equipment sales and repair shop. pretty much the same at every auto repair shop i ever worked at too. about the only thing i would use champion plugs in would be a Mopar or a racing engine using champion racing plugs that get changed every couple of rounds anyway.....even then i would still prefer NGK or Autolite racing plugs
