My neighbor has an Invotave LM-1 unit. We use it on his 88 lx carb car and his 347 85 carbed convert. I borrowed it tonight for my car. Innovate has been fairly easy to use and set up. Its the only unit I have used and works well. What are you looking for just A/F?? Its no different set up wise than an EFI car.
Ive got a flat spot that I would like help identifying. A true stand alone would be a big help. As far as EFI.... I'm old school. I am looking at Pro Flow as middle ground though. That would be later in the year when money allows.
Just find an acceptable location in your exhaust ( near where an efi car would have an o2) cut and weld a bung. Plug in the 12 v power cord to your cig lighter. Download and read LM-1 manual. Start logging a/f. Google their website and they have a tech help forum. We have the LM-1 with RPM converter. It allows us to read a/f, and 4 other items. In my car I read a/f, intake temp, rpm, and tps. In the carb car we read a/f and rpm. Check that website out. There are other companies but like I said this seems to be pretty simple.
On the passenger side floorboard (there's also one on the driver side but it's smaller) under the carpet is a rubber plug that is very convienient for fishing the wires through.
I wanted the weather connector INSIDE of the car so chose to widen the whole with a dremel to get it through. You need not do this if you don't want to. The connector was designed to be outside anyway. Just poke a large enough hole in the rubber plug to fish your cable through.
If you're a welder, great! Drill a hole someplace in your exhaust (prior cat, if you have them) and weld in the sensor bung. Ensure that your sensor is clocked to ANY position other than the 6 O'Clock position. You want to keep the sensor element out of the way of any water in the exhaust.
Zip tie all your wires and crap out of the way and you're done.
I've got mine permanently mounted. It comes on when the engine does. Shoot me a PM if you need an idea for a mount bracket. I made mine.
If you plan to leave the sensor isntalled then the meter MUST be powered. Leaving an unpowered sensor in the exhaust stream will kill it fast.
