Anyone using a Ford Racing Crate motor?

I was going to post but she did it for me. But dont change the cam. I have the Bcam and it does great. See you at Fun Ford in Atlanta.

I second that. My b-cam is great. I love how it makes the car wag its tail at stop lights. Everyone knows somethings "inside.":) I would like to get a more radical cam in the future though, perhaps custom grind that has more lift across more power band, but I may end up going blown. Anywho, sorry for getting off topic.

Wow those are some awesome results. Did you do any ECU tuning? THis was in a '95 Cobra right?

It was a 95 gt. I had a tweecer but never did any actual "tuning". I set the idle, and turned off the egr, smog, shift retard (timing) and so on. I never had a wideband, or a dyno near by to mess with the tuning aspect, so im sure there was some more in it.

How was your idle or cold starts? Did it want to stall when warm? Nothing like any of that?

Gabe

You told fawcett you liked him telling you how things really are.

Based upon my experience and watching the results of many members h/c/i combos over the years I've been on these forums

I'd have to tell it to you like this ...............

In your first post you say you are looking for 300 or better

About half way through the thread you seem to show concern for having to tune for drivability.

In this post you make it clear, you have drivability concerns.

First, I'm gonna tell you want you want to hear

You may be able to put together a combo that will not have drivability issues, put up your desired hp/tq numbers, and not need a tune :nice:

There are those who say they have done it and I'm not gonna dispute it in any way :nono:

Here is where I tell you how I think it really is :D

Those combos are the exception to the rule!

My standards for a successful 300 or better street combo are:

stock like drivability
know for certain ... max power has been obtained

I picked the parts for my combo based upon my goals of 300 or better, pass emissions :nice:

and

NOT based upon if they might make my pcm freak :nono:

If one's focus is on the pcm freaking, they are gonna be leaving power on the table IMHO :)

For max power ... I expected to have to tune

If drivability issues occurred ... I'd tune for them as well

btw ... I had drivability issues ... big time :fuss:

Summing up ... Be prepared for drivability issues :bang:

and

If you don't have them  great

I'm done now! Sorry for climbing up on the soap box :)

I have NO engine experience, but am pushing 200,000 miles and trying to figure out my cheapest 300hp route as well. I have an AODE so I'm even more concerned about driveability. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest route WITH a custom tuner. So riddle me this:

What about the Trick Flow kit for $2,200 and a shop rebuilding your bottom end on the block you have? Have the engine shop put the kit in after they freshen up the bottom end and it would be like having a crate engine, with a new intake and all matching parts.
