Anyone using the DashDaq?

I want to stop bringing a laptop in the car whenever I want to datalog for an extended period of time with the Xcal2.

I was looking at the DashDaq.

I thought instead of buying every gauges in the book, I might be better off with one screen that can show me most of what I need.

I have to say that, at first, It did look expensive to me!

It's not that cool. My dad bought one, and says that it's even locked up a time or two. I didn't like it because the screen is a piece of crap, you can't see it in direct light at all, and the touch screen part is not very accurate. That, and the refresh rates on liquid screens is slower, so sometimes the needles look jumpy, or actually show less than the stock gauges.

You might suggest you dad run a firmware update, there have been a few new software versions available for DashDAQ. As far as the refresh rates, it's not the screen that you are seeing a delay in, it's the vehicle. Some cars give updates thru the OBD2 port of 200 times per second, some only give 4 updates per second. The DashDAQ has a 240MHz processor and can update the screen faster than a human eye can detect.

I don't understand your comments about the LCD, have you seen other gauges and display products in direct sunlight? I have most of the competing pieces on my desk and I can confidently tell you that they don't stand up to DashDAQ in brightness, resolution, operating temperature, response rate, or even sunlight readability. The DashDAQ is even brighter than my factor navigation unit in my Chrysler in direct sunlight. Both are just fine in a cabin of a car, and very readable under 99% of lighting conditions. We even have convertable owners who have reported back that it works well.

If your dad's unhappy with his DashDAQ, you should have him contact us. We care very much about customer service, and if he's having problems we want to help him.

I'll point him to this thread. With the sunlight thing, we notice when light shines directly on it, it's hard to read, especially for him. I think he's just getting bitter and old. I'll give the firmware update a shot next time I head over there.
