Anyone with 3.73's wish they had gone w/ 4.10's ?

If you have 3.73's and wish you had gone with 4.10's please tell me why. Im trying to decide on wich gear to go with.

I had 4.10s NA, got the supercharger, went to 3.73s, now I miss my 4.10s...

4.10's are great. But I like my 3.73 for general everyday driving. With the nitrous on the car, too much gear kills me.

i got the 4.10's as my first mod on the car and a short shifter and i am very happy with them the car is a lot of fun to drive and 4 and 5 pull like crazy
hehe nice when u can slow down and still turn corners in 3rd gear
but u will learn to redrive the car in 1st to much gas equals crazy spin

I have 4.10's, N/A, love em, but occationally wish I had 3.73's, just because I drive a lot on the freeway and rev it up pretty good. However, most of the time, I love em. If I had a blower, I would probably want 3.73's. I have a 5 sp manual btw.

I went 3.73's and wish I would have went 4.10's. I decided on 3.73's because 90% of my driving is on the freeway to and from work. I have intentions of a S/C down the road and everyone said go 3.73's if I'm gonna use a power adder. So if you do alot of around town driving and hardley any freeway and don't intend on a power adder, go 4.10's all the way!!

With my 4.10's I am only spinning ~2500rpm at 70mph on the freeway. I have not noticed a decrease in MPG over stock, although there probably was a slight decrease.

4.10s are great for us 4V's becuase we can revv to 7000rpm, but I say they are the minimum gear for the 4V 4.6. 4.10's are perfect for the 2V's.

The only real con of 4.10s is on the highway, that is if you like to drive fast.

4.10@80mph = 2876 rpm
3.73@80mph = 2617 rpm

4.10@75mph = 2697 rpm
3.73@75mph = 2453 rpm

In my car the 4.10s at 80 mph seem to make a lot of noise, but just slowing down to 75 mph seems to make a big difference. So, I would say that 3.73's at 80mph would be just right. That is if you like to do a lot of highway driving.

Note, if you have a quiet exhaust then this really should not be that big of a deal. My magnaflows just seem to start to make a lot of noise at 80 mph with the 4.10s. Also, I have a rear seat delete and aftermarket upper and lower control arms so my car makes a lot of noise to begin with.

I had 3.73's for a while, but I just wasn't satisfied
with them because I knew I could do better. So I
went with the 4.10 and have been pretty happy
with them. Gas mileage is decent and freeway driving
is not too bad either. I Personally felt that the car pulled
much better with the 4.10. The 3.73 didn't feel to much
different over the stock 3.27.

2001 GT- plan on staying near-stock for a long while.

stock gears

I have the stock gears in my car still (2000 GT), but am thinking of switching to 3:73. However, I don't want to affect my highway driving too much. I usually drive minimum of 80 on the highway. If I go up to 3:73 from stock, how much top end will I lose. Also, how much improved performance difference will there be by switching from stock to 3:73s.

Any info will be great. Also what would it cost me to go to 3:73s?

I'll put it to you this way. Ive seen/heard of every setup and I made the decision to get 4.30 gears for my n/a 01 auto GT. I havent installed them yet but Im sure I'll love them. Im waiting on my 31 spline axles right now. When I get them and get everything installed, I'll let you know how I like it.

Haha, you're not kidding. The first month I had my blower I had 4.10s (I was making 378rwhp/360rwtq). It was awesome fun, but kinda useless for practical purposes...

i had bought 3.73's & did not install them for a year then sold them to get 4.10's.
i heard your 1/4 mile et will stay almost the same but with 4.10's you will drop a minimum of 2 tenths........and this is because almost every N/A GT can finish the 1/4 in 3rd gear & going to 3.73 or 4.10 will cause you to shift to 4th gear. with 4.10's you will make up for the extra shift and then some.

to me i could not see paying $300+ for a mod that would not drop any in the 1/4.

i also would like to know about the 4.10's & spray option.
i am considering spraying a 100-125hp dry shot in 3rd & 4th gear........and need to know if this would be a formidable set-up?

4.10's are FUN. Don't worry about gas mileage, you will notice very little difference at the pump IF you are driving cool. But, that is the catch. If you have 4,10's, your ride is sooooo fun to drive, you will burn more gas b/c you keep feeling the throttle, and more throttle feels really good.

If like the feeling of your neck and back being pinned to your seat, 4.10's are for you!
