I may be faced with the problem of changing the planetary gears (very loud whine in first) and having to install a wide ratio gear set (4R70W). This change may require a custom powertrain control chip to over ride the rev limiter setting for the AOD-E which I believe is set at 5250 rpm. If my present 1-2 shift is at 5000 rpm with the wide ratio gears this will change to 5915 rpm well beyond the PCM limiter setting. Have I got this correct?

I'm certain a few of you have gone through this exercise so I'd appreciate hearing how you resolved this issue or if indeed it was an issue.

You will need a chip for the wide ratio gears ro all shifting, not just WOT will be wrong.

Dont you love that whine? My tranny does the same thing and I tried to get something done about it under warranty and they pretty much said they wont do anything unless the tranny grenades itself. Some warranty... In either case, Id be interested in what info you have on the swap youre considering. Will the wide ratio gearset git in the AODE case or are you using a 4R case? Does the valve body have to be modified?

The wide ratio gear set is a direct replacement making it an AOD-EW/E4R70W.
Now I'm wondering what was reprogrammable in my Transgo HD2 kit besides speed and firmness.

I was thinking that the earlier shift points wouldn't be an issue any more than shifts with the 3:73 gear set. Shifts appear to be determined by speed not engine rpm under light(er) throttle. I'll post a new thread asking about the Baumannator TCS electronic transmission controller.
