AOD help with fixing/adjusting TV linkage on throttle body needed, see pic

Maybe I can get some help here. I had to put my old '88 5.0 T-bird on the road while I do some exhaust work to my daily driver saturn. I drove it around the block and the shift points were very high and didnt always kick in. I didnt go any farther because of having to replace the tranny five years ago when the TV plastic grommet on the TB lever broke. I took a look at the TV linkage on the throttle body lever, the new grommet was fine but the cable is exposed (see pic). I adjusted it according to the haynes manual but the manual only has line drawings not photos so i dont know how it should look in detail. So please pardon the rusty valvecover and take a look. Something is missing and/or broken. If you have a pic PLEASE send it my way, I need a good visual. Thanks!

thanks for the reply. When I pulled on the cable after i detach it from the groomet, it will retract, but not all the way. Guess Ill take a look at the TV cable connection at the transmission. Thought Id get more replies because its so critical that it be working properly or the transsmision will die suddenly. (Found that out the hard way myself)

Unfortunately the nearest shop is ten miles away. Id kill the tranny half way there. Ive been through this before when the plastic grommet on the throttle arm broke, tranny went south right away.

Searched the web and found the answer on Lincolns online. This was exactly what I needed. Fixed the problem, car shifts at he right time(s). This should be in a tech article section as it is very important info for those AOD owners. Also I read that the plastic grommet on the throttle arm is available in brass from ford. The plastic ones will get brittle and break and your tranny goes south in a mile!
