My problem is that when shifting the car I can't shift it all the way to 1st. With the stock shifter it felt like I just couldn't pull the shifter down far enough. Also took it to a trans shop and he said the cable looks like it needs to be replaced. So..replaced the cable a few weeks ago still didn't help. Put in a B&M Hammer shifter yesterday yaay prob fixed..wrong. Still won't shift down to first. The only thing i can think of is the linkage going into the trans but when I manually shift it under the car it doesn't feel sloppy and i have no problem putting it in first.

Welcome to my world. What kind of AOD Trans do you have? Is it stock for that vehicle? I have an AOD from a 1990 Lincoln mark 7 Manual valve body. With a B&M hammer shifter in my 95 mustang. If i adjust the linkage to 1st perfectly it wont go all the way into park. And if i adjust it to to Park it wont go all the way to first.

One solution i hear is that for different years ford/mercury/ lincoln actually changed the length of the shifter lever on the transmission itself. Theres a universal aftermarket lever with multiple holes. I bought one and plan to install.

Either way i'm subscribing to see if anything good comes out of this.

Sounds like the same exact problem as me. I need to get it on a lift with someone inside so I can see exactly what the linkage is doing when its shifting. I'll let you know if I figure something out.

Well let me know....Ive never had so many problems with a shifter lever/ linkage ever. I was looking at tossing in a Lokar unit. It bolts to the top of the tranny or the trans tunnel OE style and uses either a cable or a solid rod to shift.
