Aod -no 3rd Or Od- Trans Or Convertor?

I was getting on the freeway and was getting on it, when the trans went to shift into 3rd something went wrong and I lost 3rd and OD but was ableto drive home with 1st and 2nd gears. I pulled that trans and put a used trans in that I "was told" was good but it won't shift up from 2nd gear. The torque convertor is only a month old, it is a TCI Saturday Night Special. If the TC went bad would it still be fine in 1st, 2nd, and reverse?

Not sure of the pressure, local trans shop was closed yesterday and I don't have a gauge for it, just left it the same as the old trans was to test it. It had no slack in it at idle but wasn't being pulled either. I've changed the trans 5 or 6 times in the last 25 years and never had a problem like this before, I've set it the same and it's worked, just not sure if I could have blown the convertor or if the valve body might just need to be swapped or what the problem is.
