Aod Question/Problem

Ok I usally drive my car 10 miles a day back and forth to work and no problems...wel we had a hurricane and I have been traveling alot 125 miles a day well my car has not been on the interstate in probably a year for long distances .I notice some smoke was coming out off the back of my car and that had me concerned and i pulled off the highway and looked under the car and it was just a little trans fluid dripped on the exhaust checked fluid everything tip top looks good drives fine shift great no problem. Drove all day went home fluid fine and car ran like a dream on the highway smooth.

Today I did some driving around town ALOT of stop and go's, and drove 30 miles on the interstate and a few stop and go's. When I arrived to my destination Put the car in PARK and I could feel and hear this somewhat nocking noise coming from the tranny and bellhousing, it was not a consistent noise just itermidiate noise it sounds like to thing a meeting together and touching each other or something is off allignment? I just dont know SO i can put the car in drive and drive with no problem...Engaged i guess you could say becase I can put the car in Neut. or Park and I get that really uncomfortably sound. Drove the rest of the day and no problems when my Transmission is engaged in gear jsut when I put the car in Prk or neutral So I dont know that all means to you I tried to describe the events leading up to it .....What all goes on in between the engine and Transmission Are there hoses, pumps, things that could be off alligned or what.? Seriously the car drives good when engaged but the fluid leaking out of nowhere onto the exhaust and the wierd noises have me concerned Please Help I have faith in you.

if it is low on fluid then it will run rough.............check the fluid level while the car is on!!!!!!! i dont think the aod's have trans coolers so you dont have any rubber hoses..................... you could have a leaking seal..................... fluid is a tricky thing to pin poiint some times................ best thing to do is spray the whole car down.................then let it run see where it is coming from.................

Nothing you can really do, unless your prepared to get up under the car and inspect it and possible remove the trans for inspection.
For you, I would advise getting the car over to a local competent performance shop or transmission shop to go over your problem. Transmission problems that are fixed before they break can save you big money down the road, if your not too late.

AOD's do have coolers, but they have metal lines not rubber. The fittings on the ends of those lines are known to leak though so that is one possibility. The best bet is what 88stangmangt said. Put it up on jack stands (not just a jack) and clean the fluid off. Then just crank the car and watch for the leak.
