I have a AOD out of a 89 GT sitting in my garage. I was thinking about getting it rebuilt. I want to get it rebuilt but also made a little more beefier. I know about the better torque converter. I also heard I should look into a shift kit. What else should I look far when having a beefier transmission built?

Get a basic rebuild with good clutches and bands (Alto Reds are pretty good) and a TransGO Shift Improver kit you will also want to up your convertor to around a 2,000 or 2,400 this seems to help an AOD out. And last but not least get a good quality fluid and a tranny cooler that is external and around 12,000 gvw sized this will make you a good tough AOD.

Use the 4r70w gear train. The stamped steel direct drum. Get a hardened imput shaft. get a good converter from precision.Get some good clutches. Raybestos are good. Not sure if they have the z pack for the AOD yet. They are great clutches. Good luck. Clean the VB real good because they do give you a fit after rebuild if not cleaned properly
