AOD Shifting question...

Alright, as you can see in my sig, what i have done to my car...anyway i did get my aod rebuilt with heavy duty clutches and parts, shift kit, and 2400 custom stall. Now i usualy manual shift with it. When im 1st gear, i usually take it pretty high and then shift it up into 2nd.....now when shift it up, if i let off the gas alittle at the right time, it takes practice, and then hit the gas again, it will chirp the tires like a mother...somtiems even kick out... and i didnt even give it full throttle yet cause im breaking in the engine yet...But if like stay on the gas in 1st, and then shift up..it doest usually chirp? unless the rpms are really up there...its like weird...you have to do it the right way..my question is, how bad is that hurting the tranny, if you shift it up and then let of the gas and then hammer it again..its kinda like treating it like a clutch lol...you know what i mean...is that REAL bad for the tranny...its like catching it in gear i guess you would say..my trannys suppose to be freakin built up tho..so...i dunno...what do u guys think and feell about it..how many guys out there can chirp the **** outta the tires when shifting.

I normally shift at about 5600 in my 1st, then click it up to 2nd then put the shifter back in 1st then let it run up to about 5600 again, then in 3rd I let it run to 5600 then i pull out


If I do that chirp thing will it help any?

hahah no it will definately not help your times...the only reason i like to make it chirp and spin is for attention and its fun to do.

well im not an expert but my guess is it's doing that because of the stall converter and the rpms where your engine is making power.
what rpms do you hit second at, normally with out doing that lifting off the gas then mashing it thing???
might have something to do with the shift points in the shift kit too.
as for if it's hard on the tranny or not, who knows with these aod's. i know in mine if i shift it at 4800 or even let it shift itself it will fishtail slightly, and i dont have alot of mods really except for the shift kit and 373's. try shifting it at lower rpms and see if it chirps harder......

i see ya got the modine 3 core and and 180 tstat....i have that too and a new heavy duty clutch and fan setup... i usually hit 180 when warming up, then it will drop a couple degrees, then work its way back up to like 190 and usually stay there...it moves alot tho..like if im going up hill, it will go to 195 sometimes or if im sitting at a light...sometimes if im sitting for long enough it will start to work its way very slowly abover 195 but never to like 210 unless id sit there for like 20 mins or something...i didnt think it would get that hot tho..espcially in cool nights with like 50-60 degree weather?

So let me get this straight......you pound on your tranny to impress people? This is very hard on the AOD, good clutches or not. Stang2841, what your refering to is the AOD shuffle. It's about the only way to get the AOD to shift the way it should but it's hard on the tranny too. If you want to make the AOD work the way it should and lay a couple feet of rubber at the 1-2 shift a manual valve body with od on a switch is the way to go. With the right mods an AOD can shift hard enough to make you think some one hit you from behind. I learned the hard way.....abuse the AOD without the right parts and it'll let you sit. Mike
