Two days ago I purchased my first automatic foxbody. When I put the gear selector in first and take off it shifts to second then to drive. Do I have a cable issue? Is this normal? I read a lot about the first to second "shuffle" so I assume it should hold first gear. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think a cable or linkage issue should not let you shift at all. The only AOD problems I have had related to not shifting thanks to abuse and mileage.

If your gear selector is in 1 it should hold in 1st gear until shifted. Something does not sound right to me if it will not hold in 1st gear. May be shifter cable needs adjusting or a problem with the valve body.

Did you ever fix this issue? I know this is an old post, but currently dealing with this as well. I’m replacing the TV cable bushing as it was held by two zip ties when I got it lol. Did the cable need adjusting?
