ok, so my trans has always had a little issue with OD since i bought the car. but i just drove it in regular D and didn't use OD unless i was on the highway. now, a couple weekends ago, i decided to do some work on the car, didn't touch the trans at all. put new struts, shocks, lowering coil springs (FRPP C), new fuel pump, new plugs, basically replaced everything that was wore out. the car is 100% bone stock, with 176,000 miles. so the suspension was wore slap out. now that i did all that, i notice now, when driving at very slow speeds, i can feel the trans slip between the low gears, and you can hear/feel the rear end clunk. now, i am no mechanic by no means, but when i pull the trans all the way down into 1st gear and leave it there, there is no slipping and no clunking when going slow, but when i shift it up into 2nd, and yes i pull the handle back to keep it in 2nd, i can feel it slip between 1st and 2nd. so i am wondering if it has always done this, i just didn't notice it because the suspension was wore out? so this leaves me with a delima. i am trying to sell the car, but i know the trans issue is holding most people off. i can fix it, but if i do so, i will probably keep the car. if i fix it, i want to replace the worn out trans with a new one, or swap it to a 5 speed. but i want new parts, i don't like using used parts, that's just how i am. do you guys think it is indeed the AOD trans, or am i looking at something else. also, do you think i need to rebuild the rear end, or anything? the car is bone stock as it left Ford, i am sure the rear end has never been touched. the lady i bought it from really didn't know what she had...thanks in advance

the trans was rebuilt about 2 years ago, i have the receipt the previous owner had, and it was in 2005. they paid $1000 to have it rebuilt. if i do anything with it, i will replace it. i am sure i can find a new one for close to that?

Dont you only have (1) (D) and (OD) to choose from on your shifter? I believe you do. It sounds like you're doing the "AOD Shuffle" to hold the tranny in 2nd gear. Well if you hadnt heard on here already, thats about the WORST thing you can do to an AOD. I wouldnt be a bit surprised that the tranny is spent if you've been doing that for any length of time. The only way to properly hold in 2nd gear is with a Lentech Valve body with the OD lockout switch. My guess is that your tranny is shot.
