I've recently put a 351w into my 68 mustang and also added a AOD transmission. I've gotten to the point of only needing a speedometer cable to finish everything up.

I'm not too sure what is needed though. I have a 5" autometer speedometer and a AOD tranny if that helps. I know I need a cable, a gear, and also I need some sort of bracket to attach the cable at the transmission side. I did do some research and was told with my tire height I'd need a 17 tooth gear based on my stock gear and 275/40/17 tire size, but still not too positive on that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

While it's a pretty simple concept, with out being there it's hard to give exact advice. Your gauge supplier may have some input for you, and you might talk to this guy:

He may be able to hook you up...

Before going all spendy, might want to check the stock C4 speedo cable/bracket/gear. I swapped to an AOD from a C4 and the stock cable plugged right in. Later I went to an Autometer Ultralight gauge setup and the stock cable screwed right on the speedo.

Later I swapped to a T5 and it still worked! Who ever said Ford parts never interchange?...

I did have to get a custom cable made when I added EFI, so the cable would plug into the VSS.

I did end up getting a cable from that guy on ebay. He was SUPER nice and EXTREMELY helpful in getting me the right cable. It should be here sometime today. I also picked up a 17 and 18 tooth gear for about $10. All in all I spent about $40. Funny how Lokar has the same cable but charges almost twice as much. Although I do love their kickdown cable.

This is the last component I need in order to fire up my fresh engine and trans. I've been working up to this point for over 3 years now. All that I need to drive the car is a front sway bar and my kickdown cable adjusted. After dumping all this money into new engine and trans I figured I'd take it to a trans shop to have them adjust it, since I've heard so many horror stories about trans failures within just a few miles.

As the guy above said, the stock cable (from either the AOD car or your mustang's original) would probably work. Mine did when I did the T5 swap.
