AOD Transmission Info

Well guys I had some wacky AOD problems this week.

The AOD tranny was shifting early on from 2-3. Which I figured might mean it was time to drop the pan and change filter and oil. But on the way home when I hit the gas it acted like I had suddenly put a 3500 stall converter in the car. I thought something is definitely wrong and its time to go to a 5 speed! I limped it home, changed the tranny fluid and filter, drained the torque converter and still no change. In the driveway it would not go in to gear at all now. I had ran out of fluid so the next day went and got 3 more quarts of fluid because it was still low. While the engine was idling I noticed this cable not attached to the throttle body, guess what it was the T.V. cable....no fluid line pressure to the tranny with out that. The freaking plastic grommet must of cracked and fallen off while I was driving it, nothing was left in the hole next the throttle cable. Bought a new grommet last night so it should be ok. I guess trany's don't last very long with out that hooked up. The guy at the Ford dealer told me 6 miles is usually about it. So I guess I got lucky hopefully! The fluid was pretty clean and no chunks so I think it will be OK. I am glad Ford decided to make that piece out of plastic so the header heat will eventually crack it!!! And guess what the Ford dealer stock those because they break or crack quite a bit! Interesting Huh! So be warned if this grommet breaks your tranny could be dead. :(
