Is the fluid return line the top or bottom line? (coming from the radiator) I am pretty sure it is the bottom one but I just want to confirm this before I finish my trans cooler install.
This is how I currently have it mounted to the car. I think I might have to flip it end over end so that the fluid goes in through the top and works its way down. I'm not sure how big of an issue that would be on a stacked plate design.

Yea, I know, it's a little crooked.

Also, I forgot who asked, but here's a pic of the deep B&M pan. That bad boy sits pretty low.

The upper line is the return line. The fluid flows from the lower line itno the rad then out the upper line back to the trans.

Wow that pan is huge.... I'm not too familiar with springs, how much is your car lowered from stock?

Also, has anyone ran just a cooler and bypassed the radiator? If I go with the Summitt Radiator it won't be set up for an Automatic car so I'll be running just the cooler making two independent systems.

It is 1.5" lower than stock, Paul. It sits lower than the cats on my xpipe.

Thanks bjl95mustang. I guess I was wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

That's how mine is set up. Works great, I can touch the cooler after running for a while and it won't burn my hand.

I could have sworn the lower line was the return line... At least that is what the B&M directions said when I installed my cooler.

SN95StangMan, nice mounting place on the cooler.

I got the idea from someone else.

So now the vote is 50/50. I figured the trans fluid went into the raditor from the top and worked its way down like the coolant does. I'm going to assume you used the bottom line to splice into.

The only problem I see with that is if you live in an area where it gets cold, on those cold mornings, it might take a little longer for the trans fluid to get to proper operating temperature.

I have my rad bypassed. I have no problems with it. I also have a seperate fan on my cooler to come on at 180*.

Take off the bottom line and start your car you will see where the fluid flows.

You need to use the top line. Whats the point of getting a fluid cooler if your going to heat it up when it goes through the rad?

I just followed the B&M directions. Sometime I'll check to see which line it is actually going through. If i t's not the return line I spliced into, I'll switch it.

I'm going to go with the top line like bjl95mustang said. My limited research tells me that the bottom line is the return for the AOD, and the top is the return for the AODE/4R70W

Wow I stand corrected. The top line is the return line. B&M needs to get their directions straight. I'll have to switch it when I have time.
