Hey guys, I have never raced, I mean use all tips and tricks known, an automatic at the track before.
Do our trannys work better w/o overdrive on?
Do they work better shifting by themselves, or manually going throught the gears?
And, any stalling techniques that work (ease off the line, stab and go, etc.)

My 95 GT is stock except for 4.10 gears, and a K&N Filter. I want to get a baseline for future mods. thanx!

PS The track is 8th mile, Jax raceways Jacksonville , Fl.

First of all O/D OFF! Shifting into 4th at WOT is bad for a stock tranny. As is shifting it thru the gears yourself (unless you have a good shift kit)

As far as stalling techniques I like to power brake up to about 2200 rpms at the line (any more than that REALLY pushes on the front brakes) Hold it steady one foot on the gas one on the brake and then on the third yelllow off the brake and gas to the floor. This works well IF you can get traction. And with 4.10's and street tires you might not. I would suggest D/R's if you really want to get a decent launch.

I've only got one: 2.203. I power braked to about 1200 to stall up my converter. It was my first run at the track.

On the spray, I've had these results:

Brake torque to 1200, pop the brake/floor it at the light: 1.943 60' I had good traction here too.

Brake torque to 2200, pop the brake/floor it at the light: 2.1xx (can't find the slip) I blazed tire on this one.

No brake torquing, floor at the light: 1.883. Great traction again.

Well I am going to the track this sat so I can try it that way and see what happens. Does your Zex kick in as soon as you hit WOT? If it does Im not surprised you break the tires loose power braking. Seems like on the juice you'd want to ease it out of the hole.

Me? I'm honestly not sure....I'll check next time I'm driving WOT. I believe my shift kit makes the AODE shift at 5700, but I'll let you know.

I do know that I have to let off the gas for the car to shift into second if I'm on the nitrous, otherwise it continously smacks off the rev limiter and I'm stuck in first.

I would also say just punch it on the third yellow, the whole loading the car up thing seems to only make the AODE bog more than it already does. The only other this I can tell you is to not manually shift your car. I am not saying I have never done it, but the 94-95 AODE are very prone to breaking when being manually shifted. I ran mine at the track manually shifting and letting the computer do it, and honestly there is no difference or even the possibility of faster times being achieved from not manually shifting. Good luck and make sure you post up your results of how you did.

Well, I took my stock 95 AODE vert to the track for the first time last Friday night.

R/T = .601
60' = 2.270
1/8th = 9.488 @71.32
1/4 = 15.541 @ 90.20

Those times are the best of each from two runs. The second run I tried some goofy manuvers to get it to shift sooner but it slowed me down overall. But I ran about what I expected it to run. It spun slightly at launch both times but not enough to really cause trouble. I brought the rpm's up a little before the tree started. Don't know if it really helped or hurt. But the first run I just went down the track, in D, with my foot in the oil pan. The second I tried lifting my foot to get it to shift sooner but by the time it did, I slowed way down.

4.10's, and a shift kit are probably in my near future for this car.
It's got factory 3.27's. So I think that may have helped some, but they've got to go. I swear I was doing 50 mph before it shifted into 2nd. And it had to hit 3rd well after the 1000' mark...

The only thing I've done to the car since I got it two weeks ago, was a basic tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor), a MSD coil, a K&N, and removed the silencer. Otherwise it's showroom stock.
Tri-bars and all... :D

You know, that sucks. Not the fact that your car turned those times, but that mine with all the mods in my sig. only turned a 10.042 in the 1/8. I don't have a 1/4 mile track within 100 miles, so I have never run the 1/4, but still I am really disapointed in my heavy AODE convertible beast. Oh well, I am going saturday with bumped timing, new distributor cap & rotor, plugs and wires, and a smog pump delete, so hopefully I can get those times down. If I can get around to it before then, I may get my 4.10's in too, but thats not likely. Hopefully that will get me into the 9's. My MPH was around 73 in the 1/8 too, but my 60' was around 2.4-2.5, which is just flat pathetic. I am shocked your car didn't turn a faster time in the quarter though with those 1/8th times, but pretty good for a near stock AODE! Nice!

Garrett- The mods you have listed are not going to significantly improve your performance. The Typhoon Polished Intake and 70mm TB are too large for your stock heads, stock cam, stock bottom end motor. You are probably losing power with these on. The Typhoon intake is a copy of the Edelbrock Performer RPM, designed for motors with top end work with a 1500-6500 powerband. It doesn't work well with stock or near stock engines.

The 4.10s will help you ALOT!

I find it interesting that all you guys are running worse times power braking. I ran 15.2 BONE stock, air silencer and all. And that was power braking up to 2000 rpms. When I floored it from the line the best I could manage was a 15.5. Same goes with the last time I made it out to the track. 14.4 power braking and 14.7 flooring it from the line. And My car doesnt Bog at all launching like this. If anything it pulls harder cause I am in the power band quicker. I will try a diff technique this weekend since I am going sat night. But IMO power braking is still the best way to get an AODE stang without a stall moving in a hurry.
