Yesterday I start up the car and put it into reverse and start letting out on the clutch and I hear a loud thud from under the hood. Put it in neutral and pull the ebrake hop out and open the hood. Belt is laying down just over the crank and water pump. Look over at the alternator and my pulley is missing and the shaft is stripped out completely. Make matters worse, dont have any extra funds until about the 2nd week of july to replace this and I have to drive all week to Festus,MO (about an hour away) for training at my new job. Things can never just be simple.

That blows man. There is no way around it either, it's got to have another alternator, and they are expensive too.

You are right about that Kurt. Expensive is dead on. I was thinking 60-75 with core. Nope Oreillys wants 155 with core.

Yup, that's about right. The 3G alternators are big money.

Junk yard alternator? Come on, not even I'm that cheap. That's just a brake down waiting to happen.

waiting to happen is better than not running at all and messing with your work schedule.

So the threads on the shaft for the alternator pulley nut are stripped?

BTW you can purchase the alternator online at advance, its currently 109.99 for alternator p/n-7771-11-6G. Use this coupon code for $30.00 off
RETMENOT123 and select pickup in store. This way it comes out to 79.99 plus tax, should be more manageable. Hope this helps.

Not a good day for Mustangs it seems. Had one of my rear sway mount brackets tear off of my LCA last night. Didn't destroy the LCA so my Stang is OK, but obviously I need to replace the part.

Had the altenator on the website down to the 79.99 and it kept giving me a error. Called the store to see if they could honor the promo and accept it in person. The local manager says I have no override for the online specials sorry. Get back onto the site and I can't get it to drop under 145.99 now.

A member from a local site hooked me up with a old Alt off his car and it worked for the past week until today...driving to some guys house to pick up a dog kennel and whenever I went to pull into his drive way same thing happened. Luckily he lives less than 2 blocks from Advanced Auto Parts so I limped up there and just bought a new one with a new pulley. HOPEFULLY this is the last of the Alternator problems for me for a while.
