are GT's worth it?

With the release of the 05's you should be able to get a newer GT pretty cheap. I know 04's have a nice rebate plus dealers and discounting them pretty deep to get them off the lot. You'd do even better going for an 02-03 seeing as the depreciation has already happened. Good luck...and yes I'd say it's worth it. I love my 03 GT vert!

dont rely on us to tell you what to do. Go take a test drive and then make your decision. If you are worried about making a bad choice, go drive a few cars drive all the ones you are interested in and see which one you like best.

how much are you able to spend? If you look hard enough, you can find Mach 1s going for fairly low prices.

Look for some used Mach's. They should be in the low 20's by now.

Depends how much potential you are buying. If you dont plan on doing a whole lot to it in the long run, technically it isnt
'worth' the money. But then there is the sound and look of the mustang...etc etc

If you buy a GT just be sure its what you want because the resale is awful.

I have no regrets about my car. Its fun to drive and is quick enough for me now. I want a terminator in a few years but Im gonna keep the GT because it wont be worth anything. GT daily driver.

Look around for a used 03 Cobra

i love my 2001 GT convertible, though I'm not as big on performance as most other people here (i would think). I just got a GT instead of a V6 because the sound is what I want

Well, if you are going to keep your car mostly stock...I wouldn't hesitate to look at some of the special edition Mustangs like the Mach 1, Cobra, etc.

However, if you have any plans of doing extensive modifications I would go with a GT. The GT's are cheap, fast, and very durable (I know of several newer Mustangs in my area pushing well over 100k miles.)

I know you can modify the Cobra and Mach 1, but for me there would be all sorts of guilt. My 2000 GT was one of about 65,000 Mustang GTs, so a radical track day car is what I have in mind.

I like my 99 Gt Vert but I want a Mach 1. If you are going to get a gt I would suggest a newer one 99+ more hp than the 96-98 4.6 and no head swap. But it depends on what style you like. I personally don't like the style of the 94-98s

I love the Mustang especially since my first car was an 89 LX 4 cyl. Now I have a GT because I wanted a V8 and I have no regrets. I knew I couldn't afford a Cobra so I got what I could afford and the GT was it.

Go test drive one to see if you like it. There are some things that bother me about the stang but since I love it I got used to it. Kind of like a girl. If you love her you overlook some of her quarks. Same with the stang. If you want perfect, build your own car because you won't find a manufactured one

Probably worth it if you plan to keep it a long time and do significant mods over the years (shifter, all of the suspension, wheels, tires, chassis reinforcement and the works... even if you decide to leave the engine alone for some reason... but why?).

The 99+ GT has pretty good quickness on the street (sub 6 second 0-60 for manual... which you should enjoy), but even from the test drive I felt like I was cruising in an old granny's Buick... only with some added power and noise. Everything about the car is vague, from the clutch and shifter to the suspension feel and steering. The seats suck, and the car just feels like a whale. It seems way too heavy and soft like it was made for old people with weak bones and a long right arm (for the shifter). In short, it is an ancient geezer-mobile with odd character and a half-decent motor.

Maybe I was spoiled by recent decades of driving tightly tuned, light and quick-ratioed cars which I modded to be even tighter and more responsive. But I remember this feeling (I'll call it nostalgia in my case) from driving cars made in the '60s during the '80s. Still, it can be a ton of fun if you look at it that way.

There is plenty of potential in the car, which is why I bought it, but you will definitely have to make changes to bring it out. It will also need wide tires in the back *immediately* to fill up those unsightly caverns under the rear fender wells and to make this really huge @ss of hers look like it was meant to be that way. She's got some serious junk in the trunk, if you know what I mean. Oh... and a suspension drop all-'round to keep the bears in your area from trying to hibernate in the fender gaps over winter.

Look... until you mod it up real good, this car will not connect you to the road at all. To get a feel for what I am talking about, sit on a bag of marshmallows and hold a dildo in your right hand with your right arm stretched out as far as you can reach forward (until your back almost hurts and you bang your face on your right knee)... then, just after you 'shift' the dildo, while lifting up your left foot have someone suddenly shove you a little out of time with your foot movement. I hope you like surprises!

After that, practice barely touching the gas peddle in 'first' and 'second' gear while the shover makes annoying "clank" and "clunck" noises at random behind your head. <-- This is what it is like to drive in creeping traffic. Practice practice practice.

Or... you could go buy a much tighter 2005 and worry about first year Ford teething pains, which are almost inevitable (good luck with that!).

And no... I don't hate this car at all. I know what I bought into, and I'm just telling you like it is so you are prepared to take the bad with the good. Why not look for an '01 Cobra? You could find one for under $20k easy with low miles, it's got a 4V, and unless you're looking for a solid rear for the track the IRS is better for daily driving. Or do you need an auto?

Well I got my 2004 GT for $18,900. Let me tell you, going from a 1993 Chevy Cavalier to a Mustang GT is sickening. So if you ask me, its worth it. Its probably one of the cheapest car's you can get that comes with pure power right out of the dealership. I was interested in buying a mach1 or a Cobra, but insurance would just be a pain.

So, if you ask me its worth it. I love the huge aftermarket of the GT also, I just need some money

And I think the GT is pretty powerful.

I also plan on selling the car in a few years (once I get out of college, and get a well paying job) and upgrading to an 04 Cobra.

GetImpact...that made me laugh so much because it's so true. Though I'm very happy I have the car...it just behaves rather odd. but..when you're smashing the gas and shifting them gears you forget all about that stuff.

I dont know it just feels good to know im driving a mustang no matter if its a GT, Mach1, or Cobra
